I just got a new ibanez 1527cb 7 string and I absolutely love it. I couldn't believe how perfect the intonation was set and on a floating trem of all things. When I worked at Gibson, it always pi$$ed me off when the guys who'd tune and set up the guitar would do such a lousy job at setting the intonation. They'd say that they only had to get it close and that when you buy a guitar, you expect to pay another $100 to have it set up first. What a bunch of crap. And that was on a fixed bridge which should have been easy to set. Anyway, sorry, enough ranting on that. On to my main question.
I replaced the bridge pickup with a dimarzio blaze and I raised the poles about 1.5 turns. There's still probably about a 1/4" of space between the poles and the strings, so I don't think they're too close. The tone was just awesome, but, I've noticed that the sustain isn't very good. Especially on the high e string. I hit a bend around the 15th or 17th fret and it holds for maybe 2 seconds and then just dies. On the other strings, it seems to be better, but not a whole lot. If I turn up the volume (on the amp), it'll feedback and sustain great, but on some of my other guitars (JS
, Pacifica, GL, etc), they all seem to give me more sustain. Is there anything I can try to get it to sustain on that high e any longer? Thanks.
