I had a quick question regarding the RG1XXV and Premium RG920. According to the website, they have the same neck. I have tried out the RG1XXV and really like it's neck but prefer the RG920 pickup config and finish. As i can't try out any RG920 i would have order blindly. So are they really the same?
There may be something else I'm overlooking, but on the surface they appear to be the same except for the colors and the pickup configuration.
edit - I found one more difference: the RG920 seems to be $50 more. Strange, since it has one fewer pickup and doesn't have a pickguard. Maybe its paintjob is more costly and that's why it's more expensive.
I kinda think Ibanez is making a mistake by only having the RG1XXV available in fluorescent colors. It's a great guitar but not everyone wants a pink or yellow one. Maybe the colors they release in the future will be better. I think they would sell more if they were available in black, white, blue, and more traditional colors like that. A pink guitar screams "look at me! I'm a shredder and I'm awesome!" Similarly, it may affect resale value, since non-metal players probably won't want to buy a pink guitar, even if it does play very well.
edit 2 - I just found a RG920 in black for $849. Dunno if I can post links here but it's at a music store whose name begins with the last letter of the alphabet.
So I guess the RG1XVV is pretty consistently $899 (case not included), and the RG920 can range from $849 (black color, with gig bag) to $949 (designer colors like "black ice", with gig bag). Blemished from $679.95.
