Get a used RG550, RG1550, or a RG2550. Premiums are good but they're not quite up to Prestige level.

Agreed...I have a 5500 and a 2550z and they are both great guitars...but I think I like the neck on my '90 550 a little better cuz its not as wide as the new 2550z neck - but again they are both great guitars...I have tried a couple of premiums and I would rather find a used '90's era 550 on CL for less money and be happier....

Yeah, I have to suggest the same too. If you were talking about getting a Prestige I'd suggest that, but not a 1xxv over a 550........... The 1xxv just doesn't measure up. Great guitar........but not better that a 5xx.

You can buy the covers from Jockomo--his website or eBay and get the switch tip and knobs from Rich.
If he doesn't have them--go with Allparts.
Why not just dump some DiMarzio in it?
You'll get the look AND sound.

Good stuff, they are great playing guitars. The necks are amazing. I've only adjusted the truss rod maybe two or three times since I bought mine new due to the titanium reinforcement rods.

Looks awesome maverick!!!

I did the same to my 550 (but in reverse). It sounds better and is more fun to play!!

BTW.... Glad you chose the 550 over the 1xxv. The 1xxv would be an awesome guitar for anyone that's never played a 550 or higher......... but you know what the MIJ stuff is like, you would have been disappointed.

Thanks guys I am thrilled over it.. glad I went with the 550 as well.. I played a 1xxxv the other day. It actually sounded great I have to admit... but the neck on the rg550 just feels so much better.

Well I don't like to hear that....I had a S-Classic and a RG1570 but decided to snag a RG2XXV with the money I had in pay-pal for an amp & pedal I sold(it was also $399!). Should be ok,I had a couple lower end model Ibanez Destroyers and an RX240 I enjoyed
