RG2020X Custom job finally done.........

This started back in January, and is now finally done. The guy I was doing the project with, and my schedules just didnt work out that much, so it turned into a 6 month project. But I'm very pleased with the outcome

I had a 2020, but the color options were so slim. This looks great!! Nice thinking, nice job.

I really like it - a lot. If I had one, and I had done this, I would have gone one step further and put a single coil inbetween the two humbuckers - I've learned that I can't live without that single coil!

Sweeeeeeet!

Classy!

Ibanez really should do more oiled mahogany guitars.

And they should look like this one

That's really impressive Todd.

I'm a huge fan of the oiled mahogany tone, even more so after hearing Satch's new oiled mahogany 7 strings in action. I don't understand why this isn't the standard finish on these guitars?

If I had one, now that you've proved it can be done successfully, I'd definately do this to mine

A beautiful guitar is like a beautiful woman, you just can't keep your hands off 'em, especially if they're yours. Congrats!

Sometimes that's true even when they're NOT yours!

That's beautiful, Todd! From reading your description, sounds like somewhat of a happy accident. Kinda reminds me of an RG6CST!

How hard was it to strip the finish? I've debated getting an RG520 to strip and clear, but I figured the work to remove the finish would probably kill the grain.

Thanks for the compliments guys. In all honesty, the pics dont really do it justice. Must be seen in person. As for stripping it, we used a heat gun. Works like a charm, not near as much of a mess other methods. The mahogany is awesome with the pickups, great tone and sustain. And yes Brent, it was a "happy accident". Kevin has done the same thing to a 2020X for himself, and before this, he stripped a RG770, put a sweet flame top on it(tung oiled and unfinished as well), and installed a Roland Midi system in it as well. I'll get pics of that next time I'm at his place.

Hmmm... (Brent says as he eyes some used 520's on e-bay, thinking that the transparent blue finish was always a little too deep to really see the quilt top well enough)

I'd be half-tempted to do that to my 2020, but that'd be a little sacreligious given its current state:

How do you like the Steve's Special in mahogany? I love it in basswood, but for the 2 mahogany guitars I've got it in (the 2020 and 1680), it seems a bit dark.

Looks sleek and classy...nice Todd! My RG520QS may have to shed it's murky TK. Thanks for the inspiration.

Beautiful... big fan of natural wood here. Only thing i'd have done differently? rounded the body edges a bit more- less metalish, more graceful.

Sweet axe.
