RG2077XL: Does it really exist?

I don't think so.

I've been looking for this guitar for quite some time now and all the major shops here in Germany I have asked told me that they don't have it in stock nor did they ever had. Most of them claim that although listed in their computers it is not available, some few say it is available but only through direct order in Japan (and they would have no interest in doing so!), because even the german distributor never had them in stock.

All my emails to the german distributor remained unanswered...

If anyone has seen it in a shop with his own eyes, please tell me where and when.

I can't imagine many retailers treating the 2077 as anything other than a special order item. 7 strings have definitely lost most of their mass appeal and most retailers seem to be getting down to one or two at most and usually something cheap. The 2077 is definitely a niche guitar and the days of seeing expensive specialty items in music stores and even online sites seems to be just about over. Too bad. The Ibanez XL guitars are wonderful instruments. The neck on my 7421XL is one of the best I've ever owned.

I can't resist- has this search of yours by any chance turned up references to Imipolex G or a special guitar identified by serial # 00000? Just wondering... (MAD bonus points to anyone who catches that reference)

@dex: That's why I said "seen with his own eyes", because that is one of the shops I've told you about, claiming they never had one in stock!

@Darren: So it really does exist.
But why Canada? If you look at the Canadian Ibanez page they don't even list this modell. Very strange.

Any sightings from countries where the 2077 should be "officially" available (due the country's Ibanez page)?

I was shocked to see it in Canada... i thought the Canadian distributor got their stuff through the U.S. distribution channels. Rarely do we ever have products that aren't available in the U.S. market. I guess Efkay (the Canadian distributor) is getting their stuff directly from Hoshino, and decided to import the 2077 for Canada.

Yes it exists. Not only I have seen it in person: here's a pic of Gabriel AlmazŠn of the chilean band Dogma (see ibanez army thread in 'Other Ibanez Guitars'). You can't see the trem, so you'll have to take my word for it being a 2077 and not a 1077

OK, two sightings so far. Both outside Europe. Very strange, because if you look at www.ibanez.com you could get the impression that the 2077 is available in every European country (and only there. Not in America nor in Asia.).
