RG2228 Neck Dimensions

The title says it all... what are the neck dimensions of the 8-string neck? (ie: width at nut, width at 24th fret etc).

Thanks!

Almost as wide as a kitchen table.
That scale is so large you could take your breakfast there LOL

Re: RG2228 Neck Dimensions

Yes! Thank you! I don't know why the US version of Ibanez's site took out that dimension stuff.. and I totally forgot to check Japan's site. But thanks again!

Played one recently - actually suprisingly comfortable, but i don't hook my thumb over the top of the neck. Overall it is quite heavy though (in weight that is) sound was fabulous.

The U.S. site has always been a joke. All they would have to do is copy the specs from the Japan site but apparently they aren't that smart.

I agree. They have better layout, pics, info, guitar selection.

Exclamation Re: RG2228 Neck Dimensions

There were pictures at sevenstring org where one guy was taking measures of the neck, but they are gone from the server, I have saved them, but I don't have any account to uppload them:

thickness at the 1st fret: 19,72mm
thickness at the 12th fret: 21,52mm
width at the 24th fret: 80,16mm
width at the nut fret: 55,92mm

Pretty close to specs at ibanez site

Re: RG2228 Neck Dimensions

I could need some help deciding what strings to use with this guitar, I have been told the best way is to use "progressive" set of strings, instead of usual string sets, cause you get a better equalized tension between the string, I am not sure how well supported this theory is though, the theory says that each strings should increase about 1lbs per string, in practice this is however not 100% possible on all set of strings, it mainly depends on what string you chose as first and last string at the bottom. I have choosen 080 strings for my guitar, since it is the thickest guage for guitar strings as I know, I wanted 085 to begin with, cause it would really be perfect tension with that strings (on paper), but then I would be forced to use Bass strings, and I have been told by many that this is something that one should avoid, since bass strings and guitar strings do not always sound well together.

These are the alternatives on the table now, I am really interested to hear your opinions about it, and what alternative that looks the best, and why ?

The guitar is tuned in F#, and the neck scale is 27.
I used D'addario's tension calculator to calculate the tension, so these are based
on D'addario's strings, I plan to use GHS strings, since I have heard they have slightly higher tension in the strings, cause they use an thicker core, still need to get this confirmed though.

Here are the alterntives.

Alternative 1

Unlike D'addario most of the string manufactures do not give out the exact size of core/tension. But I have heard many sources to confirm this, of course hard to put in numbers, someone did mention a difference of 3lbs per string, which I am not sure is reasonable. The core size does differ between what GHS strings you are using, I have only this about the Compound Nickel strings.
