RG2550EX Vs RG3120

Is it worth trading an Ibanez RG3120 for an RG2550EX?

The RG2550EX is a 2003 model so it also has the Prestige neck that the 3120 has. I'm trading it to a good friend of mine so it will be a straight out trade. I just want to know what you guys think about this because I don't really know much about the 2550EX except for the fact that it's not sold in the US market.

Here's some info;

RG 3120: 2002 model--w/ DiMarzio Air Norton on the neck position and a Steve's Special on the bridge position.

RG 2550EX: 2003 model--w/ DiMarzio PAF Pro on the neck position and a Tone Zone on the bridge position.

Worth it?

I don't know much about the 2550, but I do know that the 3120 has a Tone Zone in the bridge.
I think this is a choice you have to make for yourself. It looks like both guitars are equal, but different.
Me personally, I'd take the 3120.

The stock 2550EX's come with dimarzio/ibz pickups, as far as i know. Theyre a reincarnation of the RG550EX (which coincidentally, arent available in the US either!)

Thanks for the replies.

What I meant by;

"RG 3120: 2002 model--w/ DiMarzio Air Norton on the neck position and a Steve's Special on the bridge position."

...is that I put them there, so they're not stock =)

I'm just wondering if getting the 2550EX is a downgrade from my 3120. The PAF Pro and the Tone Zone that came from my 3120 are the EXACT same pick ups that the 2550EX has because I gave it to the friend that I'm trading it to.

I played the 2550EX today and it felt great to my hands...so I might actually go for it. I just want everyone's opinion before I do it because the 3120 is a great guitar and I don't want to do something that I might regret in the long run.

And you all probably know what the 3120TW looks like...

i'd keep the rg3120 if i were you. mahogany versus basswood, direct mount versus pickguard mount.

What's the difference between direct/pickguard mount? Does it affect the tone?

tone and sustain. direct brings in more solid lows and being attached to the body, enhances the sustain thru the vibrations from the body.

Thanks guys. I'm considering keeping my 3120 now...but the fact that the 2550EX looks killer and not sold in the US market makes it so tempting...

Hmmmm...

Personally I think both have their places, Out of the two I'd be more likely to have bought the RG2550 simply because I prefer the feel of a pickguard (it very subtley alters the placement of the picking hand) and I like the HSH pickup config too.

At UK prices I wouldn't swap a RG3120 foran RG2550 simply because of the finacial loss I'd make

Is the direct mount pickups on the rg3120 like they are on the wolfgang where you can't change the height of the pickup? If oyu can't that seems kind of weird...

By the way how do you like the air norton and steves's special vs. the stock paf pro and tonezone in the rg3120?
