Re: RG2770 are back

Did they use the same model number? Because it can't be a reissue if they change the material for the body and use the same model number.

It isn't a reissue, they are just recycling the model number, besides it's 2770Z, which means it's got the EdgeZero. No confusing this with the old ones.
But according to the specs they are maple over mahogany. Nice guitar nonetheless, if you're into classy RGs.

neck type 5pc Wizard HP Maple/Walnut neck
body Maple top/Mahogany body
fingerboard Rosewood fingerboard
bridge Edge-Zero tremolo bridge w/ZPS3
neck pu DiMarzioŽ IBZ-N (H) neck pu
middle pu DiMarzioŽ IBZ-S (S) mid pu
bridge pu DiMarzioŽ IBZ-B (H) bridge pu
hardware color Cosmo Black

Re: RG2770 are back

I tried the brown one at a store, sounds awesome and feels solid (maybe because of the maple+mahogany combo)! The Edge Zero feels much more solid than a LoPro Edge I've tried before, and it sustains long enough for me to get a bite and come back :P

Really don't know where the hate for the EZ came from.. it's very convenient!

It's an awesome guitar, and I might get one and end up being poorer soon..

Re: RG2770 are back

No 2770 has ever had a real top, I doubt these do either. They always had the 1mm veneer.

There are several Japanese online stores who claim they have a 4mm maple top - but without official first-hand word it's tough to say. They do have natural exposed body binding though, which would fit for a 4mm top.

Check the grain for yourself.

I checked, these has a real 4mm maple top. The catch is that it's not exactly what you call an AAA grade flame maple top, some of them (like the SPB one) has a barely discernible flame top.

The new RG2770Z has a different grain for the top and the back.

Re: RG2770 are back

Where you have to look is in the unfinished faux binding, if it's maple the flame from the top will run over on the side. It's it's mahogany then the grain from the back will run to the top edge, as the pictures I posted above.

Re: RG2770 are back

Haha, the flame ran over on the side, that I'm pretty sure of. I checked it out first hand. I know how to differentiate a flame top and a veneer top Stuff like flame maple tops on the S series are veneer.

I'll take a pic of it some time. I couldn't find clear pictures over the net, but here's one. You can't see the flame running over in this, but the faux binding isn't as yellowish as the old RG2770s or the S5470s.
