RG2770Z vs RGA420z (w/pics)

Hi

I'm planning to get a guitar in Japan before I graduate, and I have two choices.

RG2770z (Japan only model) 145000 yen

RGA420z 216000 yen (price difference 71000 yen, about $710+ difference)

Both have maple tops and mahogany backs, albeit the RGA has a thicker top. (RG 4mm, RGA 16mm)

The RG2770z has passive Dimarzio/IBZ pickups while the RGA420z has Ibanez active LZ pickups. If I get the RGA I'm planning to switch out the LZ's to Dimarzios, which might be a hassle and more money involved. I'm fond of the Dimarzio/IBZ pickups so I'm not planning to change them out if I get the RG.

In terms of playability, I tried the RG2770z and it plays really well, liked it a lot. I haven't tried the RGA420z, but I'm guessing it'll be pretty much like my RGA321F that I have now, but with a tremolo. Needless to say, I like my RGA321F very much lol

The price difference is really steep so I'd like to know what you guys think

Btw, no, I don't really like J-Customs because of the inlays.. and it's pretty much an RG2770z without the AN/TZ. I don't really mind whether the frets are rounded or not either

Opinions welcome!

Re: RG2770Z vs RGA420z (w/pics)

you know what?Yesterday I was @#tchin about how the rga420z is so overpriced and everything..but I surfed in google and just looked at some pictures and I really fell in love with it..Usually guitars arent that beautiful in pics, but this one is,I cant imagine how pretty this thing might be in person..

If I were you I will really go for the rga..I dont care about the KTS reinforcement or ibz pups anymore....i want one!

IDK its up to you to decide..I am no expert to talk about fret quality or contour problems or anything...

but that being said,You'll save a lot of money if you buy th rg2770z..

EDIT :and considering that you'l be changing the pups, which would cost about 200$ more,I dont think its a good investment,BUT if you have the Money to do all those things..just buy the RGA

I definitely don't want to spend extra money on stuff if possible...

More pics, full body

vs

Would you want to spend $900+ on an arched top + new pickups?

Just dont judge pups because they Ibz..Have you played an RGA with those pups?....I dont think there will be a much difference between ibz\dimarzios and these..

Well If I had the money,I....just dont know man....I love the rga to death but I just cant justify that price..but it depends because I really like USA jacksons,so I would just play both the RGA and USA jackson and see which one is better and buy that...I dont think I will buy the 2770Z though..I dont like it..

Re: RG2770Z vs RGA420z (w/pics)

you guys might want to wait for a demo model to be available in a shop or some return item. I got a tremendous discount on a RGT320Z (let's say streep price was 2500 eur and I got it for 1800 eur) from a shop. Apparently because nobody was buying it and the shop wanted to give it a last chance before returning it to the distributor.

Ok the sustain on the guitar isn't incredible for a neck through but I haven't played another one to check if it's my guitar and it doesn't bother me too much

It's a lower grade maple top anyways, I'm more concerned about the sound rather than the looks of it.

I have tried plenty of active pickups, I never liked the sound... and I think it's a hassle to change batteries on a guitar etc

Re: RG2770Z vs RGA420z (w/pics)

I would take the 2770 over that rga anyday. It simply tickles that little place in my brains that the RGA doesn't. But that's just my opinion. And I don't think that I would pay over $700 more just to get a carved top. And I like the HSH config in that 2770, it's far more versatile than just HH. I don't think the pups should matter too much when choosing, when you can always change them for some others.

Never liked Jacksons and their necks.. I already done like half a year worth of research on what to buy. The only guitars that I got to bond with are Schecter Japan's SD-II (google that ) and the RGA321F

I feel more at home with Ibanez.

Not really, it's great and all but I'm more of an RG(A?) person rather than an S person lol
