RG2EX1, Guitar Center exclusive...

http://www.guitarcenter.com/shop/pro..._sku=103382115

Went to the local GC yesterday and found two RGs, inverse twins, one Black w/white binding, the other White w/black binding, both with passive EMGs (Which probably won't last too long), basswood bodies, and hard-tails.

I was looking into the RG321MH, but these are only a few bucks more, and seem pretty sweet IMHO. They look decent (Think I'd opt for Black w/white binding), and seem to have all the features I'd need.

Anyone hear anything or have any experience with them?

Re: RG2EX1, Guitar Center exclusive...

there are some other guitar center only models as well called the rg3ex. They have the same set up as those black and white rg2ex, except they have flamed or quilted maple tops and matching headstocks, they come in a nice red burst, a honey burst, and a trans black color, they are $100 bucks more then the rg2ex if I remember right. Other then that they are the same guitar. Just thought you might want to know about the other models as well.

Well, the price is right. Walmart exclusive!~ You know, the Cosco exclusive Fender starcaster gives you an amp as well for the same price?

Re: RG2EX1, Guitar Center exclusive...

Thanx for the info everyone

I just got back from GC. I liked the neck a lot. Not too thick, not too thin, just right. The pickups weren't too bad, but they will more than likely be swapped anyway.

I saw the other RGs with quilted tops as well, but the price is a little above what I was looking to spend. Next visit, I'll give them a whirl as well.

Not quite sure I like the bridge, though I can't really tell anything for sure on a set of 9's. I'm not going to know how I like it till I get 11's on it...

First image that came to mind actually

Wizard necks can't do 11's at a 1/2 step down?

That won't work So the tightest I can go on a Wizard is 10's?

You could probably put 12's on there if you tightened the trussrod down enough, but I don't think it would play very well. Even if you are tuning down 10's should be fine I would think. There are some people who like very large strings, though. I'm just not one of them.

Order some of those optimized strings from Zacharyguitars.com. That guy has figured out a string guage formula that is really spectacular. I noticed the difference right away. Read what he says about them on the site. They are called Z Ztringz or something like that. They reduce buzzing and you can get lower action out of them, and they are great for alternate tunings.

Re: RG2EX1, Guitar Center exclusive...

Interesting, I'll check those strings out...

Theoretically though, shouldn't I be able to tweak the neck back to "normal" with the trussrod like you said?

Re: RG2EX1, Guitar Center exclusive...

Prestige it up, have real EMGs (or even better DiMarzio D-Sonic and Air Norton or Evolution) 5-way switch, and that'd be a good custom guitar for me.
