RG3120 HSH? Mahogany RG560? Mistery Ibbies

I've seen some interesting guitars on a local guitar ad site, and I thought why not share them with you guys. One of them is an RG3120 with HSH pickup config:

Looks like a normal 3120, with an added middle single coil. One of the previous owners chimed in on a local board and claimed that the middle pickup is NOT a mod, the guitar came originally with it. The neck pocket is stamped 3120. I've never seen such a guitar.

The other one is an odd bird, too: an 560 with a mahogany body. Unfortunately, I did not save all the pics of the advert, and the seller cancelled the ad this morning, so I don't have too much of the guitar, but believe me, it looked like a real deal from all angles, including the bridge cavity at the back (which is usually messed up on most non-factory RG bodies). I have an 560 myself, I'd say either it's a one-off/prototype/limited edition original Ibanez, or the best RG copy I've seen so far.

There's no HSH 3120 in any catalog, nor could I find any other documentation, picture online. The same goes for the Mahogany 560: those were only made of Basswood, as far as I know. I've seen some Mahogany 570's, but to my knowledge, no such 560 existed. Still, bare with me, it looks like an original guitar. So what do you guys think?

Ibanez has done some one off production runs before, this wouldn't surprise me at all. The Japanese market has all sorts of weird guitars that were never released to the outside world (like my RG685 and RGR580) so these being released isn't entirely surprising, if they are the real deal.

This isn't in any catalog either, but Ibanez released it to Ikebe, claiming it's a 550 "prototype"

Ash body, maple fingerboard. Too expensive for what it is, but stuff like this DOES exist so a mahogany bodied RG560 isn't necessarily out of the realm "it can't exist."

It could be a 3170 or 3270, but those were later guitars. None of those pickups look original so unless you're talking to the original owner, I wouldn't trust that the guitar is unmodified. Adding a middle pickup route isn't that hard for a decent luthier.

560 is an aftermarket body. Giveaway is the non-countersunk switch screws.

That's sick. I'd totally hit it, even though I'm not into modern RGs.

will do, I have several clients around Shibuya but I'm only in Tokyo for 3 days so it's depending on where the gaps in my schedule fall...

Good point, nice find, I wouldn't notice it.

Any thoughts on the HSH 3120? According to one of the previous owners, the neck pocket is stamped '3120', but I've never seen an RGXX20 other than HH. May it still be original after all?

Any Ibanez you see in Japan could be original. They do a massive amount of "spot runs" for any store that puts in an order for enough guitars.

As Jesse said- the RGT3170 and 3270 were both regular production in 2003 and later along with the earlier 3070. To me, the guitar in question looks like an RG1880 with a Prestige logo instead of J-Custom.

The 3270 is a close call, save for the finish. The 1880 also had a matching headstock. I really have no clue what it is. Either is a one-off, or most probably it's a regular 3120 with an added middle pickup route.

I don't know what it is either, but I know a few guys who tried to sand off the color on their stained topped 520's and went right through the veneer to the mahogany, so the mahogany topped guitar may have had a super thin veneer on it at one point.

One of our members did an awesome job adding a middle pup to his 3120TW a couple of years ago....... Maybe this is his guitar?

I can't find the thread or remember who it was that did it. Maybe one of you guys can.......
