RG3120 with maple fretboard

I have an RG3120TW and I love it but at times I find myself wishing I had a guitar with a maple fretboard. I know I could get an RG1550 but I was wondering if Ibanez has something very similar to the 3120 but with a maple board?

Buy a 1550 maple boarded neck and put it on your guitar.

Didn't J Custom make one like what he wants?

Re: RG3120 with maple fretboard

Maybe, but it's probably a lot harder to find and more expensive than a neck swap.

This would seem to be my best option. Or maybe have a custom neck built (probably way more expensive, though).

Probably, depends what people are currently trying to sell necks for right now.

I dunno about you guys, but I've never played a 1550 that made me go "wow!"... somethings different between the two, can't say hed enjoy one vs the other without him physically testing the neck lol

Ok, I'll bite.... So, what (in your view) is so different about maple that it makes you wish you had it on your 3120?

To this day, I can't really tell the difference between one or the other, aside from the finish on the maple fretboard vs the lack of one on the rosewood.

Some people insist that maple sounds 'brighter'.

I think it's an illusion since the wood looks brighter.

I've never heard a difference myself. In fact, my RG1550 is actually warmer sounding than my RG2570 with rosewood. Basswood bodies on both. (acoustically, so pickups don't come into play when I say that)

Still, even if it is in their heads, it IS in their heads and maple does sound brighter to them... so... to each his/her own.

agreed, but to be fair, some guitars just look far far better with maple imo.
