RG3120 output jack replacement

Hey guys

I recently purchased my first Ibanez, RG3120. It feels, sounds, and looks awesome. The thing is, its output jack was loose so I bought a genuine Ibanez jack to replace it. Its part number is 3JK1J23, which was used on every RG3120s from 1997 to 2004 based on my research.

While the new jack looks identical to the images around internet, I found out that it looks slightly different from the old jack. The old one has smooth exterior around the rim, whereas the other (the new, genuine part) is knurled around the rim.

I am unable to find any information about variations on this particular part. Does anyone know if there has been any change on this part? I am very curious about this as I wish to keep every part close to original.

(I am wondering if the jack had already been replaced at some point, with a non-genuine part. But then I found a couple of other images of RG3120, with the plane jack installed).

Re: RG3120 output jack replacement

The output jack is loose? Did you try tightening it down first?

Most of them have the knurled edge like that. Ibanez may have changed the part at some point.

Re: RG3120 output jack replacement

Can I? I thought you can't do anything but to replace there barrel type jacks..

Does anyone actually own a 3120 with the knurled jack installed?

Re: RG3120 output jack replacement

I looked last night at the output jack I took out of an '89 Jem FP and it is knurled.

I used to own an '01 RG3120DR and unfortunately none of my pics of it show the input lack very well. I just checked three other guitars (an '89, '91 and '03) and all three have knurled edges.

As far as tightening the jack, how exactly is it loose? If the whole jack is loose in the wood, just tighten the nut on the back. If the lead is actually loose in the jack, try bending down the tab that contacts the end of the lead.

Re: RG3120 output jack replacement

Wow, thanks a lot guys. So I guess the previous owner already replaced the jack before, since it is really difficult to find another RG with this type of jack.

..and I meant the lead is actually loose inside the jack. This jack is in closed barrel shape, so there is insufficient space to insert any tool to bend the tab.
