RG3120F - out with the Dimarzio IBZ's

I finally used my newly acquired RG3120F -ANT for rehearsal last night. It is my only Ibanez with those IBZ pickups. The guitar played beautifully, as expected, but I found the IBZ's, especially the bridge pickup, to be sort of dead and lifeless in comparison to my other Ibanez guitars, which have Evolution, Breed, Tone Zone , or PAF pro bridge pickups. It wasn't totally bad, I just really noticed that the IBZ's weren't as live and responsive. Sort of dead harmonically,,,just dull. My amp is a Soldano SLO 100, and so I really notice the little nuances between my guitars, and I've been spoiled by the other Dimarzios I'm used to hearing. I'm going to go with a set of evolutions for this guitar and see how it turns out. I LOVE the evolution bridge pickup , and how harmonically alive it is. It will be interesting to hear one in a mahogany/maple bodied guitar.

Hey Lynch.........sounds great! I'd like to hear what you think after the swap.

If you haven't ordered already, You might want to think about putting a IBZusaF2 in the bridge. I think it would kill in a 3120!! It would also be a little different from the "normal" swap.

Have you tried the Evo2? Much better sounding to me than the Evo..However I found the Tone Zone to be my favorite.

Re: RG3120F - out with the Dimarzio IBZ's

The EVOs might sound a bit TOO tight or brittle maybe in this body wood combination? I have been playing my new(old) RG3120 for the past couple of days and it is a tight sounding guitar in a GOOD way. And the Tone Zone and PAF Pro sound just right in there. Maybe the EVO2 would be the way to go. I had that in one of my old guitars before and it was definitely kick ass.

I had the 3120F for a bit and had Dactivators, loved em......They fit that guitar nicely for a high gain pickup......Then again my fav pups right now are my stock dimarzios that came in my 7620...lol....let the debate on that begin, again.....
