RG321 or RGA121? Help me refine my shopping list please

Well here is the situation: I have around $1200 that I am going to spend on a GNX4, a Roland Cube30 Amp and either an RG321 or RGA121.
As you all know RG321 costs around $350 with case and RGA121 costs around $770 with case. Cube30 is aorund $220. GNX4 is around $500

I did my research and weighed pros and cons (and each one of this gear has some cons really!) Do you think it is worth paying $400 more to get RGA121 Prestige instead of RG321, the Korean made model? I am sure that being "Prestige" counts for something such as better electronics and neck perhaps, so no questions there. I am merely asking is it really really *worth* $400 more? I have 2 Dimarzio Evolutions at home that I can drop into RG321 . Also if there is any other gear in my list you think is not worth spending any money on, I'd also appreciate your inputs on them. I thought a lot about just buying a software and a pedal and not spend money on GNX4 then I decided I really hate looking at the computer and trying to record something there. I may reconsider though...I guess I am lazy when it comes to tweaking buttons and adjusting this and that on computer.

By the way what is wrong with RGA121 colors, both of them are weird, violin flat looks better than the natural flat I guess but couldn't they put like a classic blue or black or something similar? I called many stores and it looks like on east coast they are really short on RGA models, everyone tells me to wait at least 6 weeks.

Now why the hell are you even considering buying a Roland Cube 30 amp? If you want the GNX4 thing and you've tried it out and like the sound then more power to you, but IMO Roland make some really crappy amps. And if you're just going to use a modeler like the GNX4 then don't even bother with an amp unless it's a really good one. Just get some really nice speakers for it or something like that.

Now as far as the guitar goes, whether or not it's "worth it" is really up to you. IMHO the RGA121 is just a waste of money. Not to say that it's not a good guitar (because it is) but for all that extra money you're still paying for those crappy V pickups. If you want to go the Prestige fixed bridge route then I would suggest the RGA321. It is by far one of the most beautiful factory Ibanez guitars around and it comes with Dimarzios (but the guitar is a bit on the expensive side). For me, I'd probably go with the RG321 and just upgrade the pickups (Tone Zone/Air Norton combo works great in mahogany).

But honestly and truly, you need to go and play both of these guitars. And if you can't find those specific models in various guitar stores, then play similar models (other Prestige RGs and Regular RGs) and see if the differences between them are worth the extra money to you.

Re: amp - if you are getting the GNX, I would recommend getting something like a TECH21 Power Engine, or a power-amp/cab setup. No point having two sets of modelling gear, IMO. But it is obviously your choice.

As for the guitars, play them both, as lyconxero said. If you can justify the price difference, go for the 121. The 321 is a good guitar for the money though, and a nice basis for some serious mods.

where are you located at? 321's are like 275 at GC, and most of the online sites. Go that route and set it up nice yourself or spend like 15-20 bucks and have it set up for you and save some cash. Unless you are loyal to a local shop or something, but otherwise save some cash and get it cheaper.

I think GNX4 and Cube30 will be overlapping, I agree with you. I'll check Tech21 and Power Amp suggestion really makes sense. I live in Virginia by the way. RG321 is around $270 in GC but it doesn't come with hardcase so add $100 since RGA121's price already includes the case. That pushes the RG321 price to $370...

I just spent 65 bucks on a Gator Guitar Case from musicians friend and it works perfectly fine with my RG370DX and my friend also has one for his RG321. I'd personally go that route and save yourself 35 bucks that you can put towards new pickups.

Yes good point on cases. Instead of Roland Cube, I decided to go with PA or active monitors. GNX4 users seem to be complaining about they yucky sound when you drive it through a guitar amp.
Tomorrow I'll try the RG321 again and one of the 2005 prestiges. 2005 Prestiges have their neck specs changed also, they are thicker now.

Dude the RGA121 sells for $899....

The RGA 321 runs $1499 new...

I have no clue what pricing system you're looking at.

Re: RG321 or RGA121? Help me refine my list please

The official list prices from Ibanez are as follows:

RGA321F - $1,929.99

RGA121 - $1,199.99

You can probably get them cheaper than that since they're just the list prices, but that just seems like way too much damn money for what you're actually getting. Hell, if I was going to drop money like that on a guitar then I'd just get a JEM and be done with it.

Re: RG321 or RGA121? Help me refine my list please

The price I wrote here for RGA121 at $746 is the actual retail price that I confirmed with my local shops. MF and other online stores usually charge higher to cover for the so called "free shipping".

Tis true about the online stores charging more at times, BUT you still have to factor in taxes.....and that's where you get a bite in the buttocks. But go ahead and try out some guitars and see what you like. IMO the Prestige fixed bridge guitars are severely overpriced.
