RG350m: better than prestige models?

Okay, I think I've come to the conclusion that I like Ibanez's RG350s more than many of their prestige/higher end models. I was playing a yellow RG350m and man did it feel good, then I picked up a reissue RG770dx and it felt worse besides that the hardware/trem were better. They were both set up pretty well too! This is why I've chosen to buy an RG350m and replace the edge III with an edge pro. Has anybody else experienced this? Or am I just crazy.

I don't know if they're "better", but I really dig the sound and playability of my son's RG350DX. I'd say, trem aside, that it at least gives my RG2020x a run for the money.

The hardware's a killer though. Upgrading the trem and such on a lower end RG ends up costing you more than finding a higher end model that you really like.

Ha yeah better is a very subjective term. I personally like the playability and sound of the 350s better than many of the prestige ones. I'm not saying all of them though, Jems especially.

I wouldn't say "better" either. The RG350 is a nice player guitar and good for the money. If the Edge 3 and other 350 parts were cast to better specs I think you'd hear a lot less complaining about the trem. I personally think Edge 3 is a good trem; it's just not manufactured to the same standard the Edge, Edge Pro, or Edge Zero are made.
Although I will say, Wizard 2 with a maple board is sweeeeeeeet!

I was actually thinking of getting my daughter an RG350M, so I can keep her off my higher end RGs...

Re: RG350m: better than prestige models?

The 350M is a good axe, but the fretwork is nowhere near that of a prestige or an older MIJ guitar. The INF pickups are also lack a little cut and character under high gain, but are feasably workable since the maple neck helps it cut a little bit since it's so dark sounding.

If it's good for you then hop on it, I love the 350M! But better than a prestige? Nope. Not without reinvesting the entire value of the guitar towards pickups, tremolo, and fretwork. Then you might as well have bought a RG550DYXX reissue.

Exactly!

Anyway, I just put some good Dimarzios (ToneZone and Evo (neck)) in my RG350m and also I had a good setup done to it and I can say it plays and sound as well as my RG7620.

I understand that the Edge3 may not be the best bridge system out there but after almost a year of using my RG350m, I have yet to complain about the Edge3.

I've been really leary about the Edge III based on other's opinions. But for the price, I'd like to pick up a 350 and give it a whirl. If I don't like it, I can always sell it...

Re: RG350m: better than prestige models?

I have a friend who is a huge guy and he beats the crap out of his RG350mdx and his edge III bridge stays in tune very well. I would have to say though that the rg350 is a good guitar, but i personally think anyone who tells you that a guitar built in Indonesia is as good as a MIJ Ibanez is wrong. There are major difference's in the quality of the neck and the hardware.

Re: RG350m: better than prestige models?

i think if I change the pickups for a dimarzio on a 350 will sound better than a prestige model with ''stock'' pickups. Sorry for my bad english
