RG350M vs RG1550MZ prestige

Hi all. I'm new to the forum and this is my first post.

I'd be grateful for some opinions please......

I've always wanted a black guitar with a maple fretboard, so my choices are either an RG350M or RG1550MZ prestige....

My intention is to use the guitar to mod, including routing a battery box in the body and replacing the pups with actives.

Bearing in mind that I already have an RG320FM, which I really like the feel of the neck....My question is, is the workmanship/materials/hardware/neck on the 1550 THAT much better than the 350? ie...worth shelling out the additional 500, considering my mod intentions?

Your advices would be appreciated

You are best trying both out. The 1550 will have the better bridge, but you can always replace the 350s one. If you like the Wizard II, and you feel like saving a few quid (even with bridge upgrade) then maybe the 350 is for you.

Do try to test both though. You may like the Wizard Prestige more.

I have EMGs in a few of my Ibanez guitars, and you do not need a battery box, especially on RG models. The spacing between the pots (especially on the 80s models) is longer than you would think, and the cavity is quite huge. I have two 9volts sitting in the cavity of 2 of my RGs. There's been people on this forum who say they can get 2 batteries into the cavity of an S series too, however I have never tried this.

Thanks for that...its more of an issue about accessing the batteries really...dont want to have to keep unscrewing the back panel.

Well taking out wood if you dont have to is never a good idea in my opinion! (especially on an expensive Prestige) Also im a 18v mod guy, so 2 battery boxes (or the 2 battery kind) would take up so much space! Also, it's really not all that often you have to replace the batteries.

Yes, an indonesian made guitar.

Since writing this, I have actually bought a brand new RG350M for 189!! I couldnt let it go for that price!....to be honest, it needs a really good set-up, but for the money, I'm not complaining!

Re: RG350M vs RG1550MZ prestige

RG350M yellow owner here. Really like mine and I recently installed a ToneZone (bridge) and Evolution (neck) in it. I really like mine. I got mine around a year ago and still have no issues with the Edge III.

I would like also to have a RG1550 but my budget was limited and for now, the RG350M does the job real fine.

Re: RG350M vs RG1550MZ prestige

Nothing wrong w/the indo guitars...traded a fender for an rg470na at my local store, love it...beat on the edge III all day long, will hold tune...although it now has a weird "wear" mark where my wrist rests from sweat...oh well, its a player...the prestige are cool, but the $ difference is too much, the rg trem series are AWESOME !!!

Re: RG350M vs RG1550MZ prestige

i have a rg350m,i bought it for my son and was queit surprised how good it sounds and plays.i paid 200 second hand but the guy only had it a week or so and it looks prestine.im going to change those stock pups but not because there are poor, just cos ive always fancied tone zone/air norton combination that most folk rave on about.for the price you wont get a better guitar.ive had a rg prestige in the past which i didnt like, mainly was the ibanez/dimazio pups that i didnt like about it,so i changed them for evolutions which sounded worse,BUT i think that might have been the way they were wired up.ive also had a jackson dkm2 which is about the same price range as the rg350,i prefer the rg350 to the dkm2.yep great little guitar for peanuts
