RG370DX vs. RG2550EGK

the RG370 is roughly $330 and the RG2550 is roughly $850. I'm looking for an RG, but i'm kinda on a down budget. What would I be missing out on if i go for the RG 370 instead of the RG 2550?

Re: RG370DX vs. RG2550EGK

Well, for starters: pickups, wood, craftmanship, a treated neck, and basically the joy of having an MIJ Ibanez . But, if you're on a low budget, a 370 is definitely a good choice compared to other guitars in it's price range. Remember, Korean quality can be inconsistent at times so it can either be a hit or miss. The best way to avoid a bad one, as with any other guitar, is to play one yourself, so you'll know what you're buying.

Re: RG370DX vs. RG2550EGK

OK I have an RG370DX which I intended to sell a few months back which I failed. Then one fine day, I decided to change the stock strings to light DR Strings and also lower the action. I went back and tested the guitar, man it sounded so beautiful. Now the RG370 DX grew on me. I've played Dio songs and it sounded so nice and RIGHT. It was so easy to play now after the strings have been lowered. Man, I do feel so professional..lol (but I am not). I cannot speak for RG2550EK because I've never tried and own one before. Now I just bought a Seymour Duncan JB which I want to fix it to the bridge of the RG370DX which I cant wait to hear how it sounds like. What I am trying to say is that, IMHO, RG370DX is a very good guitar if it is properly setup and you have to change the stock strings because those are really bad.

Re: RG370DX vs. RG2550EGK

I used to own a RG370DX, sold it after a few months and bought a Jem 7DBK (Japanese made comparable quality with Prestige RG's)

The biggest differences between Korean and Japanese models IMHO is
- Bridge - Edge pro is much better then Edge Pro 2 - feel and tuning stability
- Pickups - sh!t stock pups vs Dimarzios
- General build - fret job, machine heads etc

Save up and get the Prestige RG (or a used RG5XX) If you buy the 370 (slthough not a bad guitar) you regret it and buy the Japanese one anyway in a few months

Re: RG370DX vs. RG2550EGK

if you're on a budget go for the 1570- it's a bit cheaper than the 2570, apart from the pickups, and odds are you'd want to switch the pickups on the 2570 eventually anyway, as they're kind of jack of all trades pickups.

but yeah, as said, the 2570 (as is the 1570) is a lot better than a 350...

Re: RG370DX vs. RG2550EGK

There is another thing I would like to add. For a cheapo, RG370DX is a very good guitar within its price range. You can make it even better by changing the pickups. Good luck with your search for "The Ultimate Guitar"

Re: RG370DX vs. RG2550EGK

If you're after the "ultimate" guitar then you'll obviously want to go after a Prestige model or a used RG5xxx or 7xx series Ibanez which can be acquired for a similar price as the RG370 or the RG350. One thing to say about the RG3xx guitars...they are no longer made in Korea but in Indonesia so if you're wanting Korean craftsmanship you'll have to find one used. I have an RG370DX that's been modified to my liking and it's an excellent guitar. The stock pickups weren't bad but I changed them to EMGs. Also, the Edge III was kind of stiff at first and didn't hold its tuning as well I would have liked but after I REALLY broke in the springs it got a lot smoother and the tuning on my guitar is excellent now. I do agree that a change of a strings and a proper setup can make ANY guitar worth owning but you should definitely try and acquire whichever guitar you can afford. I wouldn't let pickups factor into the equation as I've only played a few guitars that had stock pickups that I liked (and none of them were Ibanez).
