Wink rg370dx vs rg770dx

I have never owned an Ibanez guitar and want to get one that has great action as I just got back into guitar this year. I have an older BC Rich Bich NJ series that almost nobody has heard of but the sound is not that great even with my new line 6 spider III amp. Right to the question since this is the place to be for Ibanez RG info. I have seen the RG370DX used prices around $250-$350 Canadian Dollar here in toronto but after seeing a RG370DX review that wrote it is just as good as a RG770DX I could not believe it. What is the differences and what can I expect to pay for one used? If they even exist here in the Toronto area.

thanks in advance..

p.s. I want a RG770DX for xmas but at age 40 Santa is me so it ain't gonna happen if Mrs. Claus finds out!!

Lol!!! I'd love to read that review. The 770 wins hands down. Japanese made and superior in every way.

Can you tell what the differences are both in the parts and how they play?

thanks!

Re: rg370dx vs rg770dx

There is a lot of differences:

1. Edge Bridge, one of the best Ibanez Floyd Rose Floating Bridges EVER made. While on RG370DX, you will be using EDGE III. It is not bad, but it won't last for long. Nothing like the EDGE honestly.

2. Pickups on the RG770 are much better, they are OEMs created by Dimarzio but Stock pickups for Ibanez. Much much more better than the Crappy INF3 and INF4 in the RG370DX

3. The neck is very comfortable, that is the 1987 Original Wizard Prestige Neck(RG770). It is not neck thru, yea but much more better than the Wizard II IMHO.

4. Your are comparing a guitar made in Japan(RG770) with one made in Indonesia(RG370).

All what I didn't like the availability of colors. I am not a fan of fancy colors on guitars, but that is your own decision.

Well, the price is really dependable on the condition of the guitar.

The guitar is originally about 1350 CAD.

LOL.. Not a ferrari. I may say a "Porsche"

IMO, Prestige is one of the best production lines of Ibanez Company. High Quality for very competing prices.

Thanks for all the info guys this is great stuff to know! So if I get a 370DX and a 770DX playing the same song the 770DX will sound better with the Dimarzio pickups? The wizard neck is better made then so more comfortable?

thanks!

Re: rg370dx vs rg770dx

Yes, that is absolutely true, the pickups in the RG770 are much better. You can keep them for 3 or 4 years if they suit your style of music.

Well, IMO all ibanez necks are comfortable. I own an RG370DX btw .. and it is comfortable. It is a Wizard II neck. RG770 has a Wizard Prestige which is manufactured since 1987 till now. it is more comfortable than the Wizard II, thinner by 2mm and more flat than the Wizard II as well. There is also Titanium reinforcement bars which gives you extra strength to the neck.

N.B: The Dimarzio pickups are not official Dimarzio which are sold online or at stores. They are manufactured by Dimarzio fulfilling the needs of the Ibanez company itself. However, they are very good.... SUPER GOOD.. compared to the crappy INF3 and INF4.

So what would I notice with the different pickups would it be sustain or pinch harmonics etc? I don't have huge hands so I am guessing the 770dx nect would suit me more.

So I need to change them on my '91 RG770DX then?

Re: rg370dx vs rg770dx

Lower quality pickups "tend" to have less definition to the sound and "tend" to therefore sound a bit muddy in comparison to higher end retrofits. What you've also got to remember is that pickups "tend" to be focused in certain areas output and screaming highs or super smooth mids or whatever. So you need to consider the different models of pickups and match them to your prefered style of music and sounds if you're looking to upgrade.

LOL....
You don't need huge hands.. My hands are small too and I am comfortable with the RG370 neck. But I'd be more with the RG770.

The pickups are all over better than the INF3 and INF4 and I don't really recommend having them. I lived 2 years with them actually but with using hell lotta of effects to get some good sound out of them. Using them directly with your Line 6, would simply make you hate the guitar. So I changed them with Dimarzios and the guitar is great now.

If would like a brief about the difference, the here you go:
(the RG770 pickups compared to the RG370's)

- Better under distortion.
- Notes are crisper and more clear.
- Positions 2 and 4 are awesome for cleans
- Pinch Harmonics are incredibly easier.
*(INF made me cry to get pinch harmonics sound right)
- RARE .. They are only made for this guitar, I guess.

But again, they are good as overall pickups, but if they didn't fit your style, you might not like them. You've to try them out first.

LOL.. not at all. I meant that if you liked them, they could last for 3~4, could be more years until you change your mind to change them.

Like If you are a beginner, INF3/INF4 will do it for you for a year or two.

That is just an estimation.

I liked them btw, their distortion is good.

Re: rg370dx vs rg770dx

One of my brothers had the white 370DX, and it was a pretty good guitar. I like my Jem better, but I could certainly have lived and gigged with the 370. To me, what I liked least about it was what I liked least about the original RG7xx series guitars; namely the lacquered neck. I'm still not a fan of the finish on those original RG7xx necks.

But the RG370 isn't a dog, which is my point.

I own an RG370.. I like it. But the RG770x are better manufactured than the RG370. The neck feels more comfortable actually. I just don't like the available finish.
