RG3EXFM1 Pickup Upgrade

I was thinking about upgrading the pickups in my guitar, but I need some assistance deciding which ones are most appropriate.

My guitar is the RG3EXFM1:

Two Humbuckers
Basswood Body/Flamed Maple Top
Maple Neck/Rosewood Fingerboard

It came with Ibanez V7(Neck) and V8(Bridge) pickups. Personally, the V7 sounds fine, but the V8 just sounds terrible...

I play a lot of heavy metal. Thrash is probably my favorite, but, I also like older heavy metal from the 70s in the vein of that thick, blues-rock sound.

The only kind of pickups I know anything about are Dimarzios. I know that the Evolution was optimized for Basswood, but that's it.

How would X2N, D Activators, D Activator X, Tone Zone, Distortion, or any others by Seymour Duncan, or even the passive EMG's, sound in my basswood guitar? I don't want a very muddy sound.

Thank you in advance.

Mate I would suggest reading reviews on the different pups and deciding what would best suit your tastes.

Re: RG3EXFM1 Pickup Upgrade

Seymour Duncan JB bridge / Jazz neck OR, even better
Dimarzio Crunch Lab bridge / Liquifire Neck.

Cheers,
