Is this a RG470 or 570? (serial number listed)

Hi guys, I have a chance to buy what is advertised as an RG570 but I am thinking it is a 470. It looks like the new penny finish meaning it is a 470 if I am not mistaken. Serial number is F0037612. Looks like Fuji-Gen made in 2000, but no model is listed. Also, if it is a 470, what is the general consensus of the quality on the Japanese 470? Thanks!

It's probably a 470-especially if it's at GC.
They label all the new Penney 470s as 570s.

A 570 will have an Edge trem, flush mount jack, and an extra cavity cover on the back.

Save your time and get a 570.

the biggest difference is the trem. if the trem is an edge or lo-pro then it is a 570 if is a lo-trs ii then it is 470

Thanks Alaska, I think you are right. From the ****ty pic it looks to be a lo-trs (gag). Ah well, thought I was hoping to catch a lucky break. I really want a rg520qs but the only one I can find for sale is $400 with no case, not a great deal. Guess I will hold out. If anyone has a nice condition RG520/550/560/570 for sale at a good price, let me know, I'm looking for a backup to my 1570.

There are quite a few on various GC used gear sections cheap right now--keep looking. ;

I have been, but they miss-mark so much stuff and then you have to deal with some 18 year old kid who knows nothing half the time. On top of that getting them to send you any quality pictures is just a nightmare, plus I don't trust them. For example, last week I bought a red stripe Bandit 112 from a store a state away. I asked a few questions to the kid on the phone to confirm it was a USA made one and had a Sheffield speaker, which he confirmed. When I unboxed it, it had some POS old Randall speaker with the a magnet the size of a fridge magnet...I will keep looking though. Thanks guys.

The LO-trs is not that bad of a trem, especially compared to the LO-trs ii. You must have missed this in the for sale section here this morning:

I have an 01 570 and it is the best guitar I have ever played.

I got to disagree Chris. The Lo-trs was the biggest POS I have ever played. To each their own though. Thanks for the heads up on the RG listed here at Jemsite though. I always forget to check here oddly enough.

Wrong - get your facts right.

The Korean made ones came with the junky LO-TRS II. The Japanese ones of that era came wih the LO-TRS.

I dont know how many times this needs to be corrected here. The LO-TRS on the Japanese made ones is a very well made tremolo. Do not confuse it with the Korean II model.

It's not quite as good as an Edge/Lo Pro/Edge Pro, but it definitely holds tune well and lasts.

You're probably confusing the Lo-TRS found on this Japanese model 470 with a Korean II model. The II is absolute junk. The Japanese version not so.

Re: Is this a RG470 or 570? (serial number listed)

You know, I probably am. The experience I had with it was on a Korean RG, so it would be a version II. So in fact, I guess I have not actually played the Japanese version. With that being said, is it worth $200 for a rg470 with the Japanese Lo-trs in near mint condition? I know I can score a 570 for $100 bucks more so I am thinking no.

I thought there was a gold color on the 99-00 570's that was very similar to NP?? I KNOW they used it on the 550's. I think some pics would be a lot of help.

That's what I thought RGT, but the pic I have shows a Lo-Trs. According to the wiki that is most certainly a 470. The year, trem, and color all match up to a 470.

For $100 more I would buy the 570. I have a '97 470 and a 2001 570. They are both great guitars but the 570 is so much better IMO. Best guitar I have played. I got my 470 for $150 used and my 570 new B stock for $190 (heck of a deal with just a minor blemish by the input jack much like the one I linked above. I got them both in 01.

I was hoping you'd chime in here
