Is this an RG470 or RG550?

Hi all,

I have just found and old (ish) Ibanez in my local guitar shop. I think it is approx a 1996 model. All that is printed on it is RG Series. It also has a Japan print on it.

It has a 24-fret maple neck w/ rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays. H/S/H configuration with 1 Vol and 1 Tone pot. Gotoh Tuners and a TRS term.

It is Silver and it also has a mirror scatch plate.

I am really interested but the guy in the shop does not know which model it is... From the serial number my guess is that it's from '98.

Can any of you guys help me pls?

Thanks
Ian Power

Sounds like RG470 because of the TRS-trem. And because of TRS-trem Id stay far away from it.

If it has a TRS, it cannot be a 5XX.

If it has a pickguard, it could be an RG450DX,LTD

It it has no pickguard, it could be an RG470

Good luck!

Yes, keep saving, or look for a 2nd hand RG5xx.

Buy a secondhand RG550. Much better than the new RG1550

Its not much better its the same principle guitar design and the 1550 has a prestige neck now. Only true difference are the tremolo post which can easily be replaced

The tremolos themselves aren't interchangeable, but aren't the tremolo posts?

Well if you remove the bushings i think is that correct rich? Havent done it but i honestly see no reason why after filing the edges and changing the post the new edge pro wont be as good or better than an edge tremolo
