RG470QMD

This are being released this month over here... Nothing really special about these indos except... Duncan IBZ pups! How long has it been since Duncan has made IBZ pups? I'm not a big fan of duncans personally, but does this mean that Dimarzio isn't making the IBZs anymore?

Re: RG470QMD

My '05 SZ520 had Duncan designed pickups... I'm more a Duncan guy, but I will say that the DiMarzio designed pickups sound more like the real things than the Duncan designed pickups.

I knew about the old Duncan Ibanez pups but recently I haven't seen them at all on any Ibanez guitars which is what surprised me.

Re: RG470QMD

The Seymour Duncan Facebook page is always featuring Ibanez guitars. I think there is a perceived war between Duncan and DiMarzio, that really doesn't exist... They sound nothing alike and the market is big enough for both and a few others... Or maybe it's just me. The issue with Duncan's not being in a lot of Ibanez guitars is probably because most Ibanez players prefer DiMarzio... It's a long history together... You don't see DiMarzio pickups as stock in most other brands, like Jackson/Charvel, Schecter, or ESP, who's players often prefer Duncan or EMG, though Charvel had an Evolution and Tone Zone in the USA and MIJ runs of their So Cal.

Ah, that makes sense. Also, you're totally right about the ESP guitars having duncans/EMGs. Almost every ESP or LTD I see has one or the other. I've never liked the Duncan sound so I've stuck with Dimarzio, but I am REALLY curious about Carvin's M22V pups that are stock in the Jason Becker model. Wondering if I should try them out in my 550 because the just sound so good.
