RG4EX1 for me?

I recently bought an '06 RG4EX1 from G.C. after a buddy of mine talked me out of getting the Epiphone SG. I've only been playing a couple of years on a cheapo Behringer and wanted to step up. After reading all over the net about changing strings on a floating bridge I'm starting to worry that maybe I've got too much guitar!! I love the way the guitar plays and am absolutely blown away by the gorgeous BBL finish on it, but I am definitely not a lead guitar player. Maybe it's buyer remorse, but what's yall's opinion on this guitar versus the Epiphone SG 400? I have about 10 days left to trade at G.C. and would like a more expert opinion as I am a fairly oldish newby. ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: RG4EX1 for me?

Not a bad guitar, but it's got a sub-par trem on it. I'd still take it over the Epi SG, but that's apples and oranges. There are so many tuts and videos all over the Internet--you'll not have any problems figuring it out--just be patient and do a ton of reading. Here's the best guide that will help you:

Re: RG4EX1 for me?

Well, your def in the right place re keeping the Ibanez. Anyways, changing the strings is super easy, might seem a bit technical the 1st time if your used to a fixed bridge. But after that, a sinch. As you've only been playing awhile, the Ibanez is an axe you can grow into. Nothing against the epi, but its like comparing a '65 mustang(the epiphone) to a '11 Porsche(the Ibanez). Jeez, can you feel the bias? hahaha(keep the RG)

Re: RG4EX1 for me?

LOL...Wonder if I'd get the same answers on the Epiphone forums!!! LMAO. Anyway, thanks for the quick replies and information. I have done some messing around with my amp settings and switching through the PUPS and it would appear that the RG is almost limitless in it's sound. So as far as quality, other than a sub-par temolo, is this a decent $250(what i gave) guitar? Being that it is a G.C. exclusive does it hurt or help on re-sale? Oh and BTW....I F*@$ing hate my expreience at G.C. so far!!!

Re: RG4EX1 for me?

The best thing I have found ever to help new users to floyd type tremolo's is this

http://www.staedtler.co.uk/Noris_tra...sers.Staedtler

Stick it under the trem when changing strings, and change em one at a time. Because the trem floats, any change in tension - such as tuning up one string - throws the others out.

A Floyd Rose type tremolo teaches you perfect Chi - balance ;-) Once you get the hang, and it doesn't take too long, it almost becomes second nature.... grasshopper ;-)

Re: RG4EX1 for me?

I always use a 9v battery under the back of the trem to keep it level.
