RG500's Discontinued? (Ibanez 2003 lineup info)

My friend who's interested in the 570 went to musician's friend today to find that their site shows the guitar as discontinued. On music 123, they are selling for 399, which seems a bit low. Ive noticed that this is the usual trend. MF discontinues, and 123 starts to discount... Whats the deal, are they being discontinued? Replaced with better models?

actually, if you look at one post on the new trems, the **** distributor stated that all japanese models would be prestiges starting 2003, so if that's true, bye bye 5xx.

That worries me a little bit...
I'm hoping that this means the 5xx series will be even better guitars (with the Prestige neck and better QC).
Unfortunately, it could also mean a watering down of the Prestige name... with the 5xx the same as ever, but for the 'Prestige' tag on the headstock. I hope that isn't true!

Or the new 500s will have comparable features to the prestiges and there will be a big gap between high priced prestiges and korean made ibanez's...

dang... that was my main beef with Jackson's guitar lines (and what I really liked about Ibanez)- they had no in-between models. you went from POS models to their USA series, and from around $500 to around $1200 almost immediately. I'm hopin this won't happen to Ibanez. *crosses fingers*

Japan is a really expensive place to manufacture a midrange product offering, and i imagine Ibanez's margins on the 500 series are pretty slim.

What would you guys think of a 400 series RG with an Edge? I've played a couple of RG470s and was pretty impressed with them, other than the bridge.

If anything is going to be announced in a big way, it usually happens at the NAMM trade shows, which take place in January and July. The next show is January 16-19 in Anaheim, CA.

I think every model is going to be done in Korea now, but since the TRS is being discontinued in favour of the ILT1, zerorocker and speedloader edge, I think this could turn out to be a better thing than everyone thinks it will be.

According to them the 550 and 570 become 1550 and 1570 Prestiges, and they have pickups made bydimarzio for ibanez, labeled Dimarzio/Ibanez.

they say they should be unveiled at NAMM.

Thanks for the continuing updates... keep the info flowing if you can!
It's going to be interesting to see how the 1570 differs from the 570... pickups aside.

Eek! I don't like that Wizard 2. I know it's just a few milimeter's difference, but still, what a difference it makes!

I'd expect things to go pretty much the same as they did last year, when the S520 became the S1220. Minor cosmetic changes (nexk binding, inlay), pickup upgrade (V to QM series), and the Prestige name. Price stayed the same.

if what we read here materializes, IMO it'd be a good thing for the brand name. i find the 2002 range questionable with some models. fingers cross everyone...
