RG550 1995

Hey!

Im considering buying an Ibanez Rg 550 made in 95. The guitar has new pickups Seymour Duncan SH-1 (neck) and SH-4 (bridge). The single coil is still original. It also has a new Schaller Floyd Rose and a new Schaller switch version E type A.

Also, the guitar was recently set up by a professional.

The guy is selling the guitar for 500Ä. I think its a fair price. What are your thoughts, suggestions?

Thx, for the answers.

Re: RG550 1995

The 550's are really great guitars, very well built and really comfortable, it would be hard to know if its a fair price without looking the condition of the guitar, but regarding the mods the new pups might be a good deal if thats your preference and even if not you can always change them, but the trem i wouldn't have change the original Edge for anything so for me that would be a no buy.

Re: RG550 1995

What Rafafas said. Without the original edge it would somehow feel different. To be honest there are better deals out there for €500. I am seeing 20th and some originals from 90/91/92 in great condition for that price. It also depends on whether you want a looker or a player or both. I picked up a player recently with evolution and bareknuckle pickups for €150, the body looks like bottled ****e, but it plays like a dream. Good luck in your quest.

Re: RG550 1995

The guitar is in very good condition. Plus, the old parts are being sold with the guitar aswell.

The guitar was set up two months ago, everything from wiring to tone knobs is new. Im definitely gonna buy it, because I need a backup guitar for mainstream stuff and can detune my first guitar to D standard for metal.

As for Schaller, arent they one of the best tremolos in the market?

Re: RG550 1995

I don't have a problem with the Schaller at all, I just wonder how it fits - does it look funny? The old FR were way smaller (narrower going from bridge to neck) than the edge or lo pro...

schaller trems are very very sturdy...while i prefer the feel of the original edge myself the schaller is definitely a great trem...d.m.

Re: RG550 1995

I had an RG 550 with an Original floyd Rose trem on it.
I stupidly sold it but if I ever do pick up another 550 I may throw a new OFR right in there
it felt and worked great

A little late, but that's an Edge trem on there with a floyd screw on bar upgrade.

Re: RG550 1995

That is no edge(look at the posts) and would be a deal breaker for me unless you got it at a superb price....

Re: RG550 1995

You guys are all freakin high. It's an Edge!!

No other licensed floyd rose bridges have the "licensed under floyd rose patents" embossed where it is on an edge. Other than having the finish worn off the top- there's nothing wrong with the studs.

You sure you checked the correct pic, I know you know your stuff so something is telling me your just joking. Notice the circled areas, you can see the Schaller embossing, the regular style floyd saddles, and the thicker less threaded string retention bolts.

IDK, maybe it's my new monitor. The top circle is completely black as is most of the bottom circle. I can see the tips of the saddle and the intonation screw only.
