I have just recently started to customize my 1987 RG550. I've changed the pickups (Steve's Special, stock single coil and Air Norton), repainted the pickguard and knobs. Now only the most challenging parts remain - repainting and possibly refretting.
The reason for this thread is to mainly show the procedure, and also for getting some input from you guys (and girls?).

So, I'm really into blue/turquoise and a burst. Green to blue in the first one, and the other one is supposed to be like a Les Paul silver burst, but with some shade of blue instead of black. Either that or maybe something like lazer blue minus the sparkle. Silver basecoat and a see-through blue/turquoise? Something in the lines of that. So, what do you think of my ideas? Is this something someone who has never repainted a guitar can do and does it look totally awesome?
Furthermore, is it really that hard to refret a guitar? The prices here are silly. They actually come close to what I payed for the whole guitar! No way I'm paying that much.
