RG550-esque New RG?

My friend has an RG550, and I really envy it. I love the fast Wizard neck, and the feature on the pickups: in position 2, the neck humbucker is tapped, and in position 4, the bridge humbucker is tapped. I also like a guitar with a locking tremolo system. I was thinking about trying to grab an RG550 off the bay, but I want to buy a guitar from Rich at ibanezrules.com - that way I know I'm actually getting a good functional guitar.

The question is... are there any brand new RG guitars listed on ibanezrules.com that feel and play similarly to an RG550? Or are the new RG guitars from Ibanez crap, and I'm gonna have to end up getting something used?

All help appreciated!

Regards,
dgm

The new RG's are a lot like your friends RG550. Very much the same. You might have a bit of a hard time finding a new one with a maple fretboard, if thats what your after. Most have Rosewood.
If you like the RG550 you will probably like any of the new high end RG's.

I do like a maple fretboard, but I guess I can do without that. Do all of the new RG guitars with a middle pickup have that pickup feature I described?

Unless you have to have a maple fretboard, then I recommend the RG2550. Buying from Rich will insure you get the best possible example and will be perfect right out of the box.

Hmm. I'm just still a little hesitant buying a guitar from the internet. How do I know its gonna have a nice sound? Each and every guitar sounds different, even if made to the same specificiations. If I go and play five American Stratocasters at local guitar shops, a couple are going to sound sort of unexciting and "flat", and one or two will have a nice, rich sound. Buying a guitar off the internet, I have no way of knowing that the specific guitar I get is going to be a good one...

No worries buying from Rich, and yes all the ones with the single coil in the middle have the single coil/split coil sounds in position 2 and 4.

Yeah, I would wait till winter NAMM passes (Jan. 2007). Ibanez will release many new models, including the 20th Anniversary RG.

Why would you recommend an RG20th?
