Rg550 vs Rg450?

If i was to look at a picture of an RG550 and RG450. What would be the obvious, visable differance.

I found a "550" for sale for cheap. Now, the guitar has been repainted, including th neck (no serial number) I was just wondering, is there any way of telling if its an actually RG550
Thanks

Quickest way is the bridge. RG550s will have an Edge or LoPro Edge.

Re: Rg550 vs Rg450?

The easiest way to tell, is to look at the backplates and input jack. A 450 will have just a backplate over the trem cavity. A 550 will have a trem cavity backplate and a smaller backplate over the input jack access rout. On the 450, the input jack will have a square jackplate, while the 550 has a barrel jack with no plate. I believe that some early 450s might have shipped with Edge trems much like some early 470s, so if it has an Edge, that might not tell you which one it is.

The best way is to get photos and post them here then wait for a reputable member to advise.

The older 450s didn't have a chamfer on the heel either. Alaskabat has some good advice and it's important to note that as he said some of the earlier 450s had Edge trems.

Sure about that? Many 4XX series have a recessed cavity backplate, mine included. The jack is the indicator between the two though. Some RG470s have come with Edges, and in 2003 Edge Pros.

I never said anything about recessed cavity plates, so not sure where you're going with this.

Sorry, misread it, early in the morning for me when I wrote it. Misread the "backplate over the cavity" part.

If pickups are V7 S1 V8, then it should be RG550. I don't think that there is a RG450 made with V7 and V8...

No there isn't, but there are RG450s made with V1 and V2s, just like early RG550s.

Re: Rg550 vs Rg450?

The 98 onwards RG4xx got V series pickups when they were made in Japan.

Re: Rg550 vs Rg450?

Hi, my first post.

I just bought an RG450, 1992 model, made in Japan.

The only difference I found was the pickups, and that the 550 from that period had Lo-Pro Edges, as the 450 had Edges.

Anyway, I love it. I don't know if the post '92 models are as good.

Ps. Jemsite rocks!
