Just wondering what are everyone's thoughts on these 2 guitars and which would you rather get?

Personally, I like the 655 more. I prefer the AANJ. I also like the stock pups more on 655.

655 for the AANJ. Don't really love the FSO color, though. I'd go for the blue one. It's too bad Ibanez doesn't bring back RFR or FA as a regular color.

Didn't they release a Candy Apple 655 in the US?

RG550 has a maple neck. 655's only come in rosewood. So if that matters, then the choice is easier.

I agree on RFR as a standard color and would also add DY.

I must not be alone on DY because it seems that even beaters get more money if they are DY.

Yes it matters, I just love maple necks!!!! Just not too much into that vintage neck joint. I'll pick aanj anytime of the day. So I'm just really torn between the maple neck-road flare red and the aanj and di marzio pups on the RG655.

Talking about DY desert yellow, that's probably why they're RG550 in DY is all sold out!!!!!

They offered DY a couple years ago on the 3250, 3550 and 3570 and it wasn't all that popular. I think there's a limited appeal for neon yellow guitars, but I think reds might be more popular.

Now there are other reasons it may not have been a winner like the Edge Zero bridge or the sharktooth inlays, but overall it wasn't a huge success.

While I think you are right to a certain degree these guitars were released when the Yen/USD exchange was horrid and when the world economies were equally horrid.
I kind of wished I had gotten a DY RG550 20th too. I liked it on the RG3250 and RG3550 but those guitars were pretty expensive.
American Musical has exclusive Candy Apple Red and White RG655's. At $1,200 the RG655 in general is an awesome deal. It would be nice, yeah, if they came with maple boards though.

655 fso's the way to go IMO. AANJ + dimarzio pickups = +999999999

However if you prever the 550's specs then i guess that's yours.

While I much prefer the aanj on the 655, nothing beats that flare red and a maple board on the 550. Other than that it's the same guitar.. Plus I don't think those DiMarzios on the 655 would make that much of a difference over the Japanese wound V pickups. No?

And IMO the firestorm orange and rosewood fretboard on the 655 doesn't pop out as much as the fluorescent flare red with maple fretboard on the 550.

I think you're right on the price point. The RG3250 & 3550's were pricey. I can kick myself for not buying one of the 3550'MZ-DYs with the dot's that Rich had at closeout prices.

Re: RG550RF vs RG655FSO opinions & thoughts?

Honestly it might seem strange for me to note but if I didn't have either guitar I might go for the RG655. At $1,200 it is an awesome value and IMO the Tone Zone is the best pickup made; period. No rewiring for the 655. Also as much as I love the square heel in terms of tone it is a love hate relationship because it's such a big block to get your hands around on the high frets. In general I prefer the aanj. The maple board would make the 655 perfect.
So, yeah the RG550RF is my favorite of all time but if I were a touring musician and lost all my guitars I'd grab an RG655 off the rack before the 20th.
Sorry if that seems confusing. Both guitars appeal to me differently but the RG655 seems the most practical.
Also you may want to search out a used RG3550ROM. It has a maple board and seems the best of both worlds. I think it has an edge zero though so in that department the 655 is better with original edge.
