RG565 5-way switch

Hey everybody, I just bought an RG565 (pics coming soon) for only $352 and i love every inch of it. The only thing i cant find out about it is the way the 5-way switch works on the hum./bridge-single/neck combo. Which position is selecting what? Anyone that has any info, id love to hear from ya.

Re: RG565 5-way switch

you can get it yourself by tapping on the bobbins when the guitar's plugged and amp'd. but i think that your switching system works as following (bridge to neck):

pos 1: bridge full
pos 2: bridge split + neck split
pos 3: bridge full + neck full
pos 4: neck parallel
pos 5: neck full

that's just my guess, as i own a 565 but it was un-wired when i bought it, and the other 565 i worked on was already modded. also, they usually wire 2 hums and a 3-way selector this way.

Re: RG565 5-way switch

Well, well. The 5-way switch on a guitar with 2 humbuckers(!?). Never liked that flexibility.
In fact I don't hear much difference between the parallel and serial connection on my RG. I think I am gonna downgrade to 3-way switching. BACK TO THE PRIMITIVE!!!!

I'm jealous. I really want a 565 in the LB finish.

Re: RG565 5-way switch

I'm pretty sure that when I bought my RG565 it was in 'stock' condition and the switch was 3-way only.

I've since swapped the pickups for a Tone Zone and a Fast Track 1, and have it wired for bridge/both/neck. Simple :-)

Re: RG565 5-way switch

time ago, I also was looking for the wiring diagram on a RG565 with 5-way switch:

http://www.jemsite.com/forums/f18/wi...5-a-70790.html

if it can help...

Smile Re: RG565 5-way switch

Hey thanks guys, i got it all figured out now and i do like 3-way switching in a setup like this but since i already have another Ibanez with h/h and a 3-way switch i think i will leave my RG565 a 5-way switch just for some variety.

Re: RG565 5-way switch

DOH! I was hoping to buy that one come spring when my work season picks back up. That one's got some mojo to it, for sure. Could use a deep cleaning and a set up.

Re: RG565 5-way switch

i think they came with the almighty VLX91 selector, at least, all the 565s i worked on came stock with it. i don't like complicated pickups configurations too, i'm a "1 pickup / 1 volume" kind of guy, but the VLX91 allows you to get whatever bobbins combination in whatever position. it's amazing. so i sometimes like to wire'em up with weird configs, like, say, inner coils in pos 2, outer coils pos 3, inner coil neck pos 4, and so on, or even mute in pos 2 to get a killswitch effect by switching between pos 1 and 2. it's cool!

So far he's sanded down the finish on the neck and fretboard to get rid of the staining and tung oiled it all. He also lightly went over the frets with super fine steelwool and has restrung it. I've helped him set it up, as well as the setup help from here about the edge. We should have new pics up soon of the redone neck.

Also, I still want that lefty 470 body, but I still don't have any extra money. Hopefully soon, though.
