RG570 Questions

Hello all. Just when you think you know everything something comes up and stumps you.

Question, was the 570 offered in Black in 1997? I've got a trade offer for what is presented as a 570 but I didn't think they came in black. Also, from the pics, it doesn't look like an Edge trem. Could be a replaced FR but I can't tell. Also, what year did the Bubinga Stripe make it on 570's? Did the 470 come with V7's and V8's? Just making sure this is a 570 and not a 470. Was the 470 offered in black that year? Thanks for the help!

in 1997 the RG570 was available in Black Pearl.
1997 was also the first year 550 and 570 had bubinga stripe necks and the 450/470 didn't.

The trem should be Edge though so I woukd ask for a better photo.

I had a Black Pearl one, this one is definatly a regular black. I'm pretty sure it's a 470 because I can see some writing on the baseplate. And we know that Edges don't have any writing on them at all. I'm just bummed that it was described as a 570 only to find out it's a 470. I guess I'm glad that I found this out before we traded and not afterward...

Edges do have writing on them - it says "Licensed Under Floyd Rose Patents" by the finetuners just like it does on the Lo-Pro.

If the serial # is F97 and it has a bubinga stripe - it is 570 without a doubt.
Ask for better photos of the serial# and trem.

Well, the 470 will say F97 too, since it is made in Japan. As for the writing, the dead givaway is the writing on the baseplate, which the edge doesn't have. Oh well, like I said, better to know before than after...

I just got an email from him as I was writing this. The writing says Lo-TRS. Dead giveaway. Must resist the urge to get it and retrofit it with a Floyd Rose. "Must Wait For 570"...

Oh you mean there's writing on the wing - yeah that's not Edge or lo-pro.
The strangest thing is 470 did not have a bubinga stripe in 1997 but this is 470 without a doubt.

Also I thought that RG4xx were only made in Japan in 93/94 and then were moved to Korea for 5-6 years.
Doesn't really matter, good thing you found out it's 470 before it was too late.

You know, I heard that MIJ-MIK deal but I had a 1997 RG420 that was Japanese made. And he did say it said made in japan on the back of the headstock. Also, I remember not too long ago, the local Ibanez dealer had a 470 in Copper (don't remember the year but it was a bit after 1994) and it was MIJ. So I'm not sure when they were moved to Korea but I think it was a bit after '94. Just my thoughts anyway...

RG470:

1993 - Japan

1994/95/96 - Korea

1997/98/99/00/01/02 - Japan

At least this what I've seen. 94 and 95 470's are definitely Korean though. Best way to tell are the pickups: V-series = Japan, Infinity series = Korea..

The output jack is also another identifier. On 4XX and lower models, you will find either a football or square shaped jackplate. The 5XX and higher models feature the round recessed barrel jack.

That's funny you guys are talking about 97' 570's in Black Pearl. I just got one for FREE!!!

I was at work and some guy told me he just didnt want it anymore. He didnt know how to setup the trem and was fed up with it. "If you can do something with it, go right ahead!".... SWEET!!

Free 570!! My 4th RG I own now. My 6th I've ever owned.
