RG570 Worth?

A while ago I leveled the frets on my RG570. The frets are level now, but won't be able to be level them again without a refret. The guitar is virtually in mint condition other than the frets (and two small chips on bottom edge). How much do you think it's worth. I love the guitar, so I was thinking of either refretting it with ss frets, or selling it and saving up to buy a rg1570, 2570, or even a 655 if a good deal comes up.

So... Should I sell it? Or just refret for around $300-350?

Here is a picture (I can't get any more pictures until tomorrow)

Re: RG570 Worth?

It's a pretty guitar! I think it just comes down to how much you love it, such as the sound / feel / playability / nostalgia. Getting a 1570 / 2570 / 655 isn't a WHOLE LOT different.
You'll get a more sturdier neck, but chances are also that they'll be 58mm wide vs. 56mm on your 570. So if you love your 570 neck, I'd try those out first b/c the wider boards have a slightly different feel (which you may or may not like better).
Depending on the year of your 570, it may also be tilt joint vs. AANJ on the other models.
If you're looking for resell value in the future, you'll likely be losing out with the refret. But if you're looking to continue playing it for many years to come, I think it's worth it IMO.

Re: RG570 Worth?

I'd suggest really trying out a newer one before you trade up. In my view, the guitars of that era are really not being matched by the new stuff at that price point. Of course, you can't even touch an MIJ Ibanez for $300-350CAD.

If you love your guitar, I'd suggest sticking with it and getting the refret. Ibanez is definitely not offering beautiful colors like that these days. When they offer a purple RG, it's nearly black or brown.

Re: RG570 Worth?

If you're going to stick with Ibanez I would refret that one.

Re: RG570 Worth?

Okay.. I guess it's a unanimous decision... I think refretting it would probably be best because the only way I'm gonna get original edge and 17-19mm neck is to drop $1000 on a 655 or a 652 with a prestige super wizard. --the 2005-2014 prestige neck is also pretty good though-- I could also go ss with the frets. Although, I do like the aanj on my 7421 (tilt joint isn't really a hindrance, just aanj feels better), and I like not having pickup rings, but whatever.

...Also on basically any pre-2014 prestige I would have to pay up for dimarzios, or buy another v1 v2 combo...

I really love my new guitars, but I don't think I could part with an old one that I've had for any length of time to fund a new one. So if it were me I'd re-fret now, and save for a new guitar in the future because more is better

Out of curiosity, how much of the fret is left? Did you mic it or can you tell by feel?

I haven't measured yet, but think of a Gibson fretless wonder... They can't really be crowned anymore, and they're really buzzy. Don't feel as good as they used to either.

Refret and keep forever. Those PNs are tremendous! I'd love to know how some SS frets would feel on a 570.

Re: RG570 Worth?

I might be interested in a project guitar to try my hand at re-fretting if you decide to sell it.
