RG5EX1 Buzzkill

So I picked up a RG5EX1 thinking it would make a decent metal lead guitar. Looks cool but I cant get the action anywhere near what i want and have it playable. Buzzes all over the place. Not sure if I should just return it or have a pro take a look at it. I suspect it would cost too much to have it setup the way I want it. I'd like the action to be at around 2/64ths without major buzzing. Anyway, what do you guys think? Maybe you can recommend some other lead guitar up to $500 new (doesn't have to be Ibanez.)

My action is so freaking low it's almost laughable but I play with a light touch so there's no buzz. If anyone else plays my guitar it sounds like a sitar.

Hey Hiber I say return it and check out a used Ibanez RG 550,570,560,770,750,760 you can certainly get the action low on them. Also a used Jackson DK2M would work also. Why do you need the action so low anyway you should get used to playing anything from high to low sometimes a little higher action sounds way way better good luck. Playem high playem low just make sure you play.

Re: RG5EX1 Buzzkill

No, on an RG370, RG550, RG550MMX, RG7620, RG7420, UV777BK and Jem7V, all of which I set up myself (turning to the tech page at ibanezrules.com whenever I ran into trouble). I've setup hundreds of guitars and there's no particular reason any one model out of dozens of RGs should be too different to all the others. I really recommend checking out Ibanez Rules to make sure you haven't missed anything. But it might be worth looking at how hard you pick and seeing if that's a factor, because you can only make a string vibrate so far before it hits a fret.

There's also some great information in Toadfish's post here: http://www.jemsite.com/forums/f17/sa...ss-100785.html

Re: RG5EX1 Buzzkill

I own this guitar and have never had any problems with the action, mine is low as well. I have never experienced any buzzing whatsoever. Although I set up all my guitars, when I initially get them I bring them to the same guy, he was trained at Gibson in Nashville and he's on their website for being a certified luthier from their custom shop...So I suggest bringing it to a shop to get it properly set up...

Thanks, I'll probably do just that.
