RG5EX1 question

I see a lot of these on craigslist. It's like you can find one or 2 anytime you're looking for a used Ibanez RG.

So what's the deal with this model? Is it that they're cheap and widely available, and people get them and get sick of them or what?

I'm kinda interested in getting another VERY affordable RG, and I'm kinda liking the reverse headstock these days.

Re: RG5EX1 question

I have one of these. It's OK. Mine seems to have a flat spot running down the center of the back of the neck.
Going from the nut to the bridge the distance from the fretboard to the string increases quite a bit on mine which will require a neck shim to fix.
Also the fret ends all need to be dressed they are a tad sharp.
All in all it's OK for a cheap RG (IMO) but it needs a complete setup which is OK if you can do these little mods yourself.
Just a quick note you can't put and edge/lo pro edge in it. The location of the inserts for an edge III is different and the route is slightly different also so no upgrade there without some major mods.
Hope this helps

There is an upgrade that fits, the Edge Pro.

Re: RG5EX1 question

They are a good middle of the road guitar for a beginner.
The Edge III is the only down side if you're a trem beater.
The RG4EX1 is cool too.

Re: RG5EX1 question

I've got one, I bought it for $80 and it came with Seymour Duncan Invaders, which are way to heavy for my playing style. I think it plays really well. It's not the best, but it is a lot of fun. I through a set of Dimarzio Evolutions in mine and it sounds sooo much better.
