RG655 vs like new RG2550z series same price

I have noticed on the used market the RG655s drop like a stone for $800, but the RG2550z sometimes go for higher or the same price being used. This kinda tells me that one guitar is better. Why is that? Is one actually better? Why does the new RG prestige's value drop so much on used market?

I do like the aesthetics better on the 2550z (with pickguard and lightning rods). I also would prefer my pickups less bassy. I wonder if the 2550z pickups are less bassy than TONEzones, i'm not fond of those. Oh, I saw some of them had Dimarzio/IBZ , I'm referring to those.

Thanks!

You can't fairly compare prices of instruments available new in bulk to specialty (trial) models sold a decade ago.

RG655 is sold new as a commodity item underappreciated in market. IMHO Ibanez has created this dynamic prioritizing signature models and indo models (high profit margin items) over quality "affordable" perhaps Prestige items like the RG655. Especially when the RG655 is intentionally kept mundane.

The 2550 was regular mass production more, a decade ago. People may pay a little more for them for the aesthetics when used.

Evidently nobody was saying the 550/570 was mundane 30 years ago.....

5x0 was always mundane (although originally had more color choices) but tons made over 30 years keeps buyer choices high and prices low. Especially now when new models are released then have "clearance blow out" sales to make room for new models. We're 30+ years past peak Floyd Rose when the RG550 was THE players axe of the era.

I have seen no evidence that among Ibanez players the 655 isn't currently the players axe.

The 550 came in 2 colors in 88', the 655 comes in 2 colors today.

again 550 was THE players axe...not just "among Ibanez players".

My bad, 4 colors, wasn't looking over those mundane dots.

Difference being the catalog offered far less models in 1988 than it does today, not that it's an excuse, but instead of giving you 2 models now they give you 20, but more limited color options.

JEmsite: I don't know enough about the guitar to say it was mass produced or trial. I know nothing! But then Rich says its a mass production model. Who is right?

I mainly want to know
Which guitar is built better? or is it really the same and it's just take your pick basically.
Which guitar has better pickups/features (Dimarzio/Ibz vs Tone Zone) as I said, I do not like bassy pickups ,is the Ibz a copy of the Tone Zone?

I dont know, but Used Ibanez's seem to have odd pricing. Most models used are going much more than I could get used MIJ Jacksons or like new Korean ESP's. I didn't end up with an Ibanez as it's cost is a lot higher.
I will try to get one though.

Glen would never admit he's wrong the 2550 was standard production.

The difference is, when it was made, who on the line made it, and specs, just as the difference would be today.

Re: RG655 vs like new RG2550z series same price

The cost of used Ibanez has retained much higher value than Jacksons for MIJ. Does this say something about the quality?

Also, are the RG550/570/770 considered similar quality to the Prestige lines? I always see people post "pre prestige" when selling their guitars, so i ASSUME that prestige is just simply a new name.
I also assume the S470 MIJ is not considered comparable to S5470 prestiges.

Btw, on Jackson forums, reddit and FB they always make fun of Ibanez fans and say the guitars are cheap toys cuz they don't weigh anything..LMAO
So I can't really ask anything when it comes to weight or ergonomics even I don't mention the word Ibanez.

I actually prefer a lighter guitar, if anything it has 0 to do with the tone.

NOtE: It's easier if you assume I know nothing.

It's a mass produced worldwide experiment. Not exactly sure (or care enough) to reference the years it was sold in the USA. I consider RG550 mass market all over retail for years worldwide. Real demand.

Same basically take your pick. The problem is the Zero trems are just not desired. They tend to sell to newbs or those who won't look past Ibanez who are less particilar now about tremolos.

I'd always err on the RG with the real Edge (not zero) tremolo. Most would. Pickups almost moot and can be changed.

Re: RG655 vs like new RG2550z series same price

Sorry, Jacksons are ugly, in my eyes, Others can think what they wish.

Everybody wants to claim "golden era" to try and get more money, which is nonsence. They're old guitars with lots of old guitar problems and were sloppier builds to begin with.
