RG7 and 2027 neck profiles

Well, im looking to get a custom guitar made, but i have a question.

The neck Profiles of the Rg7s and the RG2027 are different right? i mean i used to have a 2027 and i now have 2 Rg7s, and the neck of the 2027 always played better, and it wasn't the setup i know that. so? was there a difference or was i just imagining things?

Re: RG7 and 2027 neck profiles

Definitely a difference. I don't have my 2027 anymore, but at the time I remebered preferring it to my 7620's neck- it was about the same thickness, but flatter, more of a "D"-shaped profile, as I recall.

The nearly blank board was a bit disorienting at first, but man was that a ncie neck... when I sold it I should have seen if the buywer would have agreed to take it with the neck from my 7620, lol.

The neck shape is really important! I am currently having a custom made and I'm going for a U shaped neck, cuz to me it feels a LOT better. I don't see why that couldnt' be the reason of your commentary.

Re: RG7 and 2027 neck profiles

I'm the guy who bought Drew's 2027, and I also have a 7421. I'd say the neck on the 2027 is much flatter in shape than that of the 7421.. and just feels a hell of a lot better in general.

..so I'm glad the 2027 came with its proper neck and not the one from the 7620 Drew.

Re: RG7 and 2027 neck profiles

From my recollection, having owned both guitars in question, is that the 2027 neck, while the same depth from front to back, had softer sides. That is from its deepest point, being the center of the radius, it had a noticable taper up to the edge of the fretboard. the sides were not as steep as the 7620 neck, which was, as Drew said, more D shaped. The 7620 neck definitely had more wood on the sides compared to the 2027. More meat on that bone, as it were.

I liked both of them really, 2027 was more shredder friendly while the added mass of the 7620 was more comfortable for my meat hooks.

If you are having something built, remember that it is always easier to take wood off then add it back on!!

Oh well, guess that means I just can't regret making the offer, eh?

Glad to know that one found a good home, though, it's a hell of a guitar.
