RG7-XL project finished (with pics)

Hi all,
Here's some pics of my very-modded RG7421XL:

http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/fay...bum?.dir=/9aab

The last picture is how I received it, as you can see the neck was broken so I decided to do all the mods. I stripped the body, filled the 5-way hole and the neck humbucker hole then routed for a neck single coil. Then added the flame maple veneer to the front, stained and lacquered it. The neck I built from scratch, it's maple and bubinga 5-piece with a maple fingerboard and reverse headstock stained to match the body. It has a Hipshot bridge, PAF7 in the bridge position and Blaze single-coil in the neck, with a single volume and 3-way selector.
It plays nicely, although the XL (27" scale) does take some getting used to, and I do like the single coil in the neck position, it's been ages since I've had a guitar like that. I kind-of based the project on the old RG565, but with a vintage violin type finish.
cheers,
Rich

Very slick guitar! Ive never been a fan of ibanez reverse headstocks but that looks quite good! Just one question though, you built the neck from scratch right? why did'nt you build the neck and headstock as one piece (like the prestiges) instead of the neck and headstock being seperated by a scarf joint? cause youve got the volute (thick hump behind the nut) there so there would be plenty of strength if the five pieces of wood went from end-to-end. did you run out of wood lol? Anyway its an absolutly brilliant guitar great job!

I know I keep saying it Rich, but for gods sake! Please start doing custom work for people! lol That thing is absolutely goregous, and personally, I would take one in a second! Nice work though all-round - as per usual.

Hows the 8 coming along?

Re: RG7-XL project finished (with pics)

Amazing work...considering state of guitar.

Also good to see there was decent (basswood?) body hiding underneath the silver Ibanez paint.

Most people shy away from building a neck.....you did an awesome job.

Overall an inspiring project.
