RG7420

Hi, I have 4 jems and 3 satrianis and have always wanted a 7 string. I just picked up a used rg7420 for 330 buck because I figured it was made in Japan so it has to be decent and I can beat it around since it wasn't huge money. It is my first seven string ( Has trem I love Floyds and Edge Trems). What do you guys think of these guitars? Have you had any experience with them?

Re: RG7420

sounds like you got a pretty sweet deal man - I've never played a 7 string but I am intrigued...make sure you post some pics once you are able. congrats on your new guitar

Re: RG7420

These are good for the price, they have the Lo TRS tremolo, but with a good setup (or blocked) it's a reliable guitar.

Post pics!

Is the Lo TRS term bad because dive-bombs are a big part of my playing style? Also, it is on police hold until July 20th so I will post pics when I get it.

Re: RG7420

I were you I would hold out for a RG7620, I bought mine for $350 USD

This has a EDGE Lo pro... better Trem and I think the Pups are different...

I have a RG7421 the bridge is fixed and I LOVE the way the neck feels.. My RG7620 has a gloss finish but my RG7421 has no finish and feels so smooth......

Re: RG7420

It's just made out of a cheaper metal, tends to wear out faster.

Cool, which finish is it ?

+1 on a RG7620

Re: RG7420

7420's rule man. Switch out the pups, and while your at it take the neck off and check the heel stamp, many 7420's actually have 7620 necks I payed 270 for mine in mint with ohsc, and put a gmc swirl on it

Re: RG7420

It's weird because the color is metallic pink. Isn't that only on the rg7620s though.

Re: RG7420

All 7420's have 7620 necks, there are no 7420 stamped necks from my understanding.

7420s came in Magenta Crush finish, similar to the Vampire Kiss finish on 7620s.

Re: RG7420

I ended up trading it in because i didn't want to put that much money into a guitar I only paid 330 dollars for. I got a B.C. Rich JR V 7.

Re: RG7420

I just bought a used RG7420 from Guitar Center for $196. Granted it looks like it should cost $196 because the finish suggests it was dropped on concrete...frequently. But cosmetics aside, the neck is the best I have ever played! That surprised me because the quality of the neck seems to be the major difference between high end guitars and their lower end counterparts (ex. RG2228 and RGA8.). Not so in this case. I need a fixed bridge guitar so I think I will block the trem and it would a great guitar to finally try out a set of BKP Aftermaths.

Re: RG7420

have had both the 7420 and 7620 the only real diffrence is the trems between the 2, the necks are wonderful on them and on my 7420 i even had dimarzios as standard in it.
