RG750 Pickups

Hey there. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what kind of pickups the old RG750s were equipped with.

Since I got my old RG550 back, I've gotten the bug to mod my RG370DX. Before I originally bought the 550 in 1991, I had my eye on an RG750FA, but when I went to put it on layaway, they had already sold it, so I settled on the 550. I have been pining for that 750 ever since, and the sharktooth inlays are one of the main reasons I bought the 370 in the first place. So I'm planning on painting the 370 Five Alarm Red and putting a pickguard on it, and I want the pickups that were in the 750 so I'll at least have a close approximation of my original (pre-Jem) dream guitar. Plus, it'll be an AANJ version

Another quick question: Will an original Edge trem fit in place of the Lo-Pro III (is that right?? It's a 2003 model) trem, or will I have to do some modification?

Here's what she's gonna look like. The red might be a little off, but...

So, if anyone can help with some info, it'd be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Re: RG750 Pickups

The 750FA is truly awesome. I have a 1990 750 which used to be purple neon, but I stripped it. I couldn't find a FA at the time, but damn they are fine guitars. Anyway, my 750 came with IBZ/USA F4 (neck), C2 (middle), and F2 (bridge).

I think I still have the original pickups somewhere...

I don't believe the Edge will fit in place of the Edge Pro II, if that's what the guitar is fitted with.

Re: RG750 Pickups

F2, C2, F2 for the first couple years, then they switched to the F4 in the neck when that pickup came out.

Personally, I would just get some name-model Dimarzios over the F-series. They were great for stocks, but I wouldn't buy them aftermarket(though some like them).

Re: RG750 Pickups

nope tried it before on mi jem555. the edge will not retrofit properly unless you rout. i heard the edge pro can retrofit the edge pro 2 rout so you could try that but you will be better off with a gotoh. thats what i when with after the edge couldn't get into mi jem555 and retrofits almost any rout i suppose.

I would wait and try to get the real deal before going to all that hassle.

Sounds about right. I swapped them for EMGs after about a month of buying my old 1989 750FA guitar. Still my number one axe.

...I would as well, remember you would still be missing the original Wizard and the craftsmanship alone of the RG750 far surpasses the RG370DX. I would go forth with the mods of refinishing, pickguard, and pickup installation but that is as far as I would go with that mod unless you can get all of the materials for a extremely low price and do the labor yourself...I do love the RG750's but even more so the RG770DX, what a site those beautiful instruments are. Anyway, good luck with whatever path you take with this project...

Re: RG750 Pickups

I just got a '91 RG750 BK with a mirror pickguard installed. PUPs are f2 bridge, c2 middle, f4 neck.

I love it. Now I'm selling my highway 1 tele with a dimarzio chopper T in the bridge.

On the 750, position 4 (mid, coil split neck) with the volume rolled back and enough gain sounds more like a tele than my tele. THis guitar rocks. Very responsive.

Re: RG750 Pickups

^^ That was one of my favorite switch positions, too. I used it through an 100W Marshall head (model 2210) and a couple of 4 x12's, Whammy pedal, CyBaby, and a BOSS Digital Reverb pedal. It was a great sound.

Re: RG750 Pickups

I'd go ahead and make the headstock match the body color too
