RG7520/ 7620 ? Help needed!

(PLEASE DELETE THE OTHER THREAD)

Hey guys, I may have been duped so need your help. I got this from kijiji for an okay price since I needed a 7 string for cheap. Guy sold it as an RG 7520 (fujigen) with Dimarzios. I really did not inspect it much but further research turned dismal, especially that Lo-TRS trem part

Please let me know what you think. I can still probably return it and save the money towards a universe:

Well, I'm not sure how much you were duped. That is a Fuji-Gen neck from 2000. And in that year, the RG7420 was still made in the Fuji-Gen factory and it came equipped with a legit Wizard-7 neck. So my guess is that you purchased a 2000 RG7420. Yes, the Lo-TRS-7 bridge is considered a bit inferior and the pickups are Ibanez rather than DiMarzio, but you've got a seriously great neck to practice on.

I don't know what you paid, and I don't know what the going rate is in YYZ; If you paid $300USD or so, I'd think that's an ok price for a 7420. Much more than that, and I might be looking for a refund.

And for what it's worth, the Lo-TRS-7 may not be all that bad. The Lo-TRS-II gave all non-Edge bridges a bad name for a lot of us, but my recollection was that the original Lo-TRS bridges were more or less as good as most other licensed Floyds.

Thanks a lot guys. I paid in high 300 CAD without a trem arm. So I wasn't really happy from the beginning and now not at all happy for the misinformation. Ive asked for a refund. I really should have done my research so completely my fault. Thanks again for verifying my doubts.

That's a cool color from a time period when Ibanez was dead set against allowing us to own guitars in shades that weren't black, dark black, metallic black, or silver.

Re: RG7520/ 7620 ? Help needed!

The 7520 was only made in 97 or so if I recall, quickly changed the name to the 7620 as I think it caused confusion with the model as the RG520 is a very different guitar spec.

Definitely a 7420.

Not a terrible price for one, but not a particularly great one.

If you take the neck off the RG7420 it says, "RG7 620" on it.

That 3pc neck is really nice.

The only diff is the trem.

Re: RG7520/ 7620 ? Help needed!

The RG7520 and RG7620 are exactly the same instrument, so I wouldn't pay a penny more for one branded as 7520.

The 7620/7420, and 7621/7421 used the same necks, and all were branded with the 76xx scheme, so every 7420 has "7620" stamped on the neck (as Sebastian points out). The differences between those instruments were with hardware and pickups - not the necks. Because of that, 7420s are often misrepresented as 7620s, so its always wise to know what the differences are before you purchase.

7620s will also have triangular pickup tabs routed where the 7420s have the rounded ones like in the OP's pics and DMs pics, so that may be easier to remember as an identifier if you don't recognize the differences in the bridges at a glance.

Re: RG7520/ 7620 ? Help needed!

This is what the guy had to say:

"RG7420 does not come in "Grey Nickel" finish. It is a 100% RG7520. and NOT RG7420 ....and the pickups are Dimarzios." Im not sure what to believe; thought that bridge is a dead giveaway. Dumbass mistake in my end.

I thought a 7520 doesn't even exist. He can give me a refund, a $100 less tho :P

Re: RG7520/ 7620 ? Help needed!

That guitar in your original post is absolutely not grey nickel THIS is a grey nickel 7620 body. Note that is it:
1. Actually grey and not black
2. Has the triangular pickup tabs like all 7620s
3. Has an Lopro Edgo bridge.

NOTE: While all 7420s should have necks marked 7620, and the 7620 and 7520 are identical (just the early name change), it COULD be possible to get a 7420 with a neck stamped 7520. However, that neck would be an early one piece neck not have a skunk stripe, as your 7420 clearly does. Your guitar is younger than the demise of the short lived 7520 naming convention. Maybe you should point your seller to this thread?

The guitar in the top post is an RG7420BP, which is black pearl. See below:

Re: RG7520/ 7620 ? Help needed!

actually i use a trick to distinguish between a lo pro 7 and lo trs 7 trem...the lo pro trem goes around the outside of both trem studs...the lo pro (and my floyd) are flat against one trem stud, making them pretty easy to distinguish between the 2...

that being said, i don't think you got a bad deal...i love my 7420...it plays great and sounds really good...not sure i'd return it (if i were you) just to take a 100 hit...d.m.
