RG7620 GAS... BAD

For some reason, I've been having really bad GAS for a good ole RG7620. I never owned one, and while I have several really nice Prestige 7-strings as well as a J-Custom (8527VV), there's just something about the 7620 that's calling me... especially ones with the stripe down the back of the neck.

Can anyone give me a good reason why I shouldn't snag the next one I see on ebay that's in decent shape?

Which model/year had the thinnest necks? Or, were they all about the same?

Think they're all about the same - I've played a bunch and owned two over the years, and they all felt about the same to me.

I preferred the other Ibby seven string necks I've played - the 1527 is possibly the best seven string neck I've ever gotten my hands on, right up there with my Suhr - but if you want something a little thinner, then the only thing thinner than a 7620 is an older UV, and even then I think the actually thickness is about the same, the UV is just a little more rounded and thinner in the shoulders.

Nice thing about 7620s is they go for peanuts used, even after they've recovered from the early 2000's blowout pricing.

Totally agree about the 1527 necks. My 2006 - 2008 RG1527RB's are my favorites.

Re: RG7620 GAS... BAD

The only reason to pass on a 7620 is if you find a 7680 or 7421xl

But I'm a total 7620 whore myself.

Re: RG7620 GAS... BAD

There is what is advertised and looks like a NOS unplayed 7620VK on Ebay ending in 1 day. The price is steep, but it might be worth it to ya if you want what seems like a brand new 7620. It's a 99 model, so no 3 piece neck, but I own a 98 and a 99 7620 and love the necks. I have no stability issues, and no cracks near the nut. And they have taken some beatings.

Re: RG7620 GAS... BAD

I never had a 7 string, so I went and found an amazing specimen of a 7620 a few weeks ago at Ishibashi. All original, with the Dimarzio whatever pups. Absolutely AMAZING.

I'm still keeping a lookout. I specifically want one of the ones (2000 - 2002, I think) that has the 3-pc maple/bubinga necks.

I think those necks only came on the Gray 7620s.

Definitely on the Gray ones, but I know I've seen them on the black and Vampire Kiss colors as well.
