Question RG7620 or S7320 w/DiMarzios?

Ok... so I shall buy a 7-string soon. The question is: which one?

I might be able to get my hands on a brand new (forgotten in store) 2000 RG7620 for 1050.
I absolutely love this guitar and I wouldn't touch a thing!

However, I love the S series and I'd love to own one, since I haven't got one yet. It would price to about 700 and I'd still have to upgrade it. I might be getting a Blaze II bridge and an Air Norton 7 for it. Total, about 900.

What would you choose?

All input is welcome!

RG7620.
I don't think I know anyone who's been disappointed with an RG 7 string. You can probably get an RG7620 on the internets auction sites for less money.

Yes, I know.
The thing is that I can get my hands on a brand new one...

Any thoughts on the S7?

Only 22 frets, I like the lopro 7 much better, 7620 looks better IMO. Also, as they said I don't know anyone that has been disappointed with the 7620, some I've seen say they like it better than their UV's

I had the oportunity to do an A/B test of a 1997 RG7620 and a 1999 UV777PBK.
They were both setup by me with exactly the same parameters and tested with the same amp.

I liked the RG WWWAAAYYY best!

Again, any thoughts on an upgraded S7?
I really don't mind having "only" 22 frets...

Idk I don't like the fact the S is black. I do like the upgraded pickups though. Also some prefer the mahogany body for 7's, like on the S. However the S has a wizard 2 neck which I rather just have a wizard neck. Btw I don't have anything against the S series guitars, I am just all for the Rg7620.

I was wondering... since the S is mahogany and it has the ZR tremolo... I have two RGs, this way I'd have an S.
I don't know, just a thought.

True, but one can never have too many RGs.

Re: RG7620 or S7320 w/DiMarzios?

I'd say go for the S7. While it may be mahogany their still very light, the Wizard 2 is a whole 2mm thicker than the original Wizard but still feels very comfortable and as far as 22 frets goes:

"This is a big boy guitar and goes up to 22" - Guthrie Govan

IMO, I love my S series and the ZR tremolo is very nice; and this is coming from the man who hates tremolos

I'm lucky to have tried both before (no upgrades on either). The RG fares better in terms of tone, I'm no expert but I guess this can be put down to its superior mass. The S is more comfortable to carry about and feels better to me at least.

Yes, I have tried both too and I really LOVE the RG's tone.
My question is, will the S7320 with DiMarzios (AN7/Blaze7) sound better?

Re: RG7620 or S7320 w/DiMarzios?

well i must consider myself lucky cause i have both, the rg7620 w/ evo on the bridge and tone zone on the neck and the s7320 with d-activator on the bridge and stock on neck, the truth is that they are very diferent, i love both, love the s for the slicknes and the mahogany tone, my favorite guitar wood, the zr trem is amazing for stability, easy to tune the guitar with it, and the D-activator makes that guitar scream but at the same time turn down the volume and get a nice sweet sound, the neck is fat and fast, its a very solid guitar, the what i like most on the RG are the harmonics, the tremolo is amazing you can dive bomb or or pull it however you want and the guitar will stay in tune, i prefer the freedom on the tremolo of the RG, has more space to play with it, the neck is extremely fast, its thinner, has 24 frets for people who have issues with 22 wich i have no problem, i think the best from transitioning from a 6 string is the RG, depends on you playing style and what do you seek, i will tell you, you wont regret getting any of them and i recomend on changing the stock pick ups, at least the bridge ones, there are my favorite guitars right now and i also have and rg550\(1990)real one\ with stock pickups and a 97 js100 w/EMG, so yeah im a ibanez fan, so try both and the one that you feel that responds better to your playing is the one you should take home. Hope it helps!!!
