RG7620 vs. RG7420

I am considering buying a used RG7620, but I want to make sure that I don't get a 7420 by accident. I know the trem type is one way to tell. How do you distunguish between the TRS trem system and the Lo-Pro? I'm buying it from someone that doesn't know much about them and I just have crappy pictures to go by. The serial number, by the way, is F99 42692. Does that help anyone tell me what model it is?

Check the p-ups. If it has the small poles like a dimarzio, its probably a 7620. Also, what color is it? 7620s came in bk,jb,vk,gn and in certain cases gp and ip. If its bp or mc its probably a 7420.

Again thanks for the help, but how do you tell a trs from a lo-pro. Are there dead giveaways? I'm sure if I saw many of them in person I could tell them apart, but so far I've just seen a bunch of pictures (and the picture of the trs trem in tremelo section of this site is really blurry) Again...thanks.

I always look at the back edges of the "wings" of the trem. TRSes are angled, Edges and LoPros have straight edges (when viewed from the top).

You are both right....also the TRS looks like it is made from a piece of sheet metal, to me.

Yeah... the TRS is stamped, and the Edge is cast. The Edge has a nice slope from the knife edges up towards the fine tuners, and is beveled all around. It just looks more sculptural, rather than industrial.

I think the biggest and easiest-to-see difference in trems is the pivot point. On the TRS the left side is straight, and sits behind the stud. the lo-pro and edge sit around the stud, the pivot pont sits back in the body in the trem a little bit. Its easy to see (usually) in crappy ebay pics. Ive seen many 270s advertised as 570s, and some vice versa. Its good to know your hardware

One more thing...is it true that the 7420's were only made in black and magenta crush? Meaning if it has a trem and and the stock paint is any color other than those two it is going to be a 7620? (like white, blue, grey, etc...) I realize there are going to be some exceptions but is this a good rule to go by?? Also...what is the difference between the black pearl for the 7420 and the black for the 7620?

the F on the serial, doesnt that mean japan made? i dont think the 7420 is japan so already that could help.
also, how to recognize a lo-pro and trs. well its really easy imo!! the lo-pro looks really thicker than the trs, which looks really stiff.

both the 7420 and the 7620 are japanese made...

I pretty much have everything else figured out (trem, pickups, etc). I just wanted know in general if the color thing usually holds true.
