Re: rg770...1991

glad to see you re-posted!!!

What type of info are you looking for exactly.... there's a LOT we can tell you, but it would help if you narrowed the field a bit. It seems you have the basics already.

Posting pics would help us a lot too.... I don't recall any '91's with a Lo-Pro though, are you sure its not an original edge??

Re: rg770...1991

no problem man...... first off, don't ever get rid of those pickups. They are somewhat difficult to get ahold of. They are also known by many (including me) to be the best pickups Ibanez ever put in a guitar. they were made bu DiMarzio in the N.Y. factory specially for Ibanez 700 series and USA custom guitars from 1989-199(3?)

The RG700 series were the super deluxe version of the RG500 series workhorses. They came in: RG750- H-S-H on a pickguard, RG760- H-S-S, and RG770 H-S-H with pickup rings (until 1993 when the pickups on the 760 and 770 were direct mounted)

The differences between the 500 series and the 700 series:
neck: 700's had a bound rosewood fretboard with sharkfin inlays/ the 500 series had standard dot inlays and no binding (in general, SOME 500's did get a 700 type neck in later years... they were called 5xxLTD's). The 90-93 700's also got a paint matched headstock.

Pick-ups: the 500 series got V7-S1-V8 pickups and the 700's got the IbanezUSA F and C-series pups. Many people do not like the V series pickups and change them out (I personally like them). The F-series were modeled on production DiMarzio's but were usually a little hotter than their DiMarzio counterpat. The were specifically designed for the Ibanez basswood guitars.

be sure to post pics!!!

Ryc

Re: rg770...1991

the '91 catalog show the original edge on all 500 and 700 series guitars. the only ones I see with a Lo-Pro are the Vai sigs, some of the 540s', and the 540r's.

maybe you were looking at the '92 catalog..... all the 5 and 7 hundreds got the Lo-Pro then.

Re: rg770...1991

forgot to mention that the neckplate was quite different on the 700's from the 500's

It's the lighting. The other pics of it showed Cosmo. That darn flash must have been pointed right at the trem!

Re: rg770...1991

Very nice guitar. That was on Buy It Now forever and I looked at it several times. I ultimately decided that I wanted a black one (which I got).

Your guitar is actually a '92. That was the first year for the LoPro Edge and direct mount pickups. You will often find Ibanez guitars where the serial number is from the calendar year preceding the model year. My guess is that they built up a stock of guitars to be ready for the new year.

Good call Man!! Definitely a '92. Neck was probably stamped in late '91 (looks like a high serial#, but can't see it well for sure). It also has a Hollywood neckplate, not Bensalem.... I think the '91's still had the PA plates.

Can't believe you didn't get this one Rob........ LOL @ the Kharma!!! This would have been the perfect compliment to your collection.
