RG770 question

I'm looking at a 1991 Ibanez on a well known auction site. It looks like an RG770 in PN, but it doesn't have pickup rings. It is RG body shaped, no pickguard, has the F2 C2 pickups, bound rosewood sharktooth neck with matching headstock face, and what looks like an Edge or Lo-pro Edge trem - so I'm assuming it is a 770, but I've not seen one without pickup rings. The pups are just mounted straight onto the body by the looks of things. I've done a search but to no avail. Any ideas? Was there another similar model without pickup rings?

Thanks!

Re: RG770 question

Is the guitar on evilbay?? If so just copy and paste the item number so that members here can get a look at the guitar. Definitely sounds like a 770 and the 1992 RG770PN did not have pickup rings.

Re: RG770 question

If you look real close, the 1991 catalog shot doesn't have rings either.

I'd say that's a real 770.

Re: RG770 question

that's legit. what are you waiting for? buy it now!!! $400 is a steal for a 92 770. lo pro edge with sharkteeth. unless it's a jem, it don't get any better from that time frame!

Re: RG770 question

Wow--the listing is labeled incorrectly but according to catalogs that guitar is a 1992 RG770PN with the Lo-Pro Edge bridge. However, if you read the listing, it's probably so cheap because there was a crack in the neck that has been repaired, probably why there's no pictures of the guitar from the rear, and why it's drop-tuned to C#--keep tension off the neck.

Remember, if something seems too good to be true, it probably is (unless it comes from Race). 8-P

Cheers,

Race

I did request photos of the neck repair but none have been fourthcoming.
