RG8 impressions...

While I haven't gotten my hands on it, my band was at NAMM a few days ago, and a buddy of mine got his hands on it.

He claims it was "Hilarious"

The largest guitar neck he's ever wrapped his hand around, and most unique playing experience he's ever had. While he said he would never be able to practically implement it, he wouldn't mind having it as a practice/learning/writing tool.

I can't wait to try one of these...

Re: RG8 impressions...

It will be interesting to play one thats for certain.

I won't ever buy one "new" though. But if I see a secondhand one on E-bay nearer the end of this year, I will pick one up and try it. Even if its just for curiousity reasons.

Re: RG8 impressions...

It' is interesting, I'm down forgetting one, when the Universe came out in 1990, it was the strangest thing to most, once people started playing them here & there, they started catching on.

Will have to see how the 8 string is received, I think it would be cool to have two of them, string one with the extra low, once with an extra high string.

Re: RG8 impressions...

I'm stoked about it, although I probably won't be able to afford a new one for awhile. If the line is successful (not betting on it, though), perhaps they'll come out with more options (finishes, cheaper model) at Summer NAMM for a fall release- when I'll finally have the money.

Re: RG8 impressions...

Im gonna grab one as soon as they become available. Im a little nervous that the size of the neck will put some people off and the guitar will not have a long production run. I think Ill be fine with the neck, Ive never had any issues with a 6 string bass set up for slapping which is about as wide a neck as I can think of.

I'd imagine it to be intimidating as hell.

Still, something about it that screams "play me".

Re: RG8 impressions...

Must admit it would be fun to try it, but I can't see myself playing that thing, it looks like a huge fat person!

Re: RG8 impressions...

Anyone see the 8-string from Halo guitars? Supposedly, they claim that they dominated NAMM and had truckfuls of endorsers flee from Ibanez and other companies to come to them, but nothing more solid on it other than a couple pix on ss.org. Healthy competition, maybe?

Re: RG8 impressions...

I like the 8-string that Richard Fay built.

Re: RG8 impressions...

Thats a really tasty looking 8 string. I wish it was more financially feasible to do business with Richard from the US, but the currency exchange is kinda scary.
