RGA mods

Here's a couple of pics of my VLF RGA with Steinberger gearless tuners and the Earvana nut. The nut works great and the tuners (40:1) definately look different but have control like fine tuners on a floyd. There's a really small hole that has to be drilled on the accommodate a placement pin on the front but cant be seen with these or the old tuners back on.

No, you would think so but it wasn't noticable. Nice to see the international community represented here.

Re: RGA mods

How much did the nut run you? You install or take it to a tech? I've heard some good things about the earvana.

RGA mods

Can you tell us if you really found an improvement on intonation with the earvana nut?

I'm thinking about installing one. Does the string spacing matches the original RGA nut or did you buy an unslotted earvana nut?

It cost about 25 bucks, see www.earvana.com

I'm very curious about the replacement too. Is it too much work or too hard to remove the original nut?.

Not really, I've done three of the Earvana nuts and the easiest way for me seems to be using a razor from a big box cutter-slowly wedgeing it between the old nut and the fretboard. It will usually pop out. The improvement will be really noticable on the first few frets of open chords-the F,G,and C chords will sound much more in tune with each other.

I bought a pre-slotted one and it seems to match perfectly.

Re: RGA mods

I'm curious as to how well the Steinberger tuners are! Are they well constructied and sturdy stuff? I read up on the way to use them, and it seems to be that it might be geting quite a bit of wear from that?

Re: RGA mods

Does the earvana nut keep tune well?
Is it as "slippery" as a graphite nut ?

i'm having tuning problems with my rga, and this is already after having the nut setup by a pro... i still get nut binding on the G and B strings.
