RGA121 vs. RG3120 vs. RGT3120

Hey i've been having a dillema on which guitar to get. It's between those three. I want a guitar that has preferably fixed bridge, and neck through, with mahogany, maple top.

RGA121

Pros - Fixed bridge, cheaper then the 3120's
Cons - Not a flamed maple top, finishes aren't as nice, bolt-on

RG3120

Pros - Cheaper, better finishes (the blue gives me a massive hard on), body is all mahogany (besides the top), AAA flamed maple top

Cons - I hear neck through has better resonance, sustain. It has a tremelo (though I can block it)

RGT3120

Pros - Neck through, aaa flamed maple top, supposedly better "Ultra" neck which is thicker

Cons- Almost too expensive for me, i'd have to save alot longer. Not as nice finishees, but still nice. Maple in the middle, body not all mahogany.

Whichever guitar I get, i will replace the bridge pup for a BKP or another dimarzio. Is the neck through worth it?

Re: RGA121 vs. RG3120 vs. RGT3120

Buy this guitar:

120581165590

That is the item number on 3bay. If I didn't already own the blue RG8520 version of this guitar, I'd be all over it. It's basically an RG3120 on steroids. It's the same basic specs, but the quality of the finishing is miles better, especially in the fretwork. I've owned an RG8520 and RG3120 simultaneously and the pictures don't do the difference between the two justice.

Also, that vintage of J-Custom has a more "ultra" style neck. They say it's a Wizard profile, but it's 19.5mm at the 1st fret and 21.5mm at the 12th fret.

Re: RGA121 vs. RG3120 vs. RGT3120

I have 3 RGA121s and a RG3120 (among others).

Since you have to buy these used and you want a fixed bridge, the automatic answer is the RGA121. You can pick up a pretty much mint used one on the bay for about $600. Great guitar and a great price for what you get.

A RG3120 will go for $800-$900. Great guitar as well. I've never played a RGT3120. I've played a RGT320 and would recommend that or a RGT220 as they are easier to find than a RGT3120.

Try for a second-hand RGA321F Lovely prestige wizard neck; 16mm arched flame maple top, on (African?) mahogany; and that transluscent dark-blue that IS 'hard-on' inducing.

There are some nice pics on here somewhere.

Re: RGA121 vs. RG3120 vs. RGT3120

I have a RGA121 and a RGT2020, RGT220A-CAH (BBQ), RGT3120, and RGT320Z. I guess that says what I prefer. The nice thing about the RGT3120 is it comes with PAF Pros which I do like. All the others need a pick up swap, in my opinion. The RGA comes with V7/V8 (I believe?) and most RGTs come with ibz (which I loathe). There is a RGT3120 on 3bay right now, 230488721429. He has it listed as a RGT320, but it's not. It's a little high in price, but they are becoming harder to find. I was thinking about getting it because I don't have the purple one, but you can't have them all. There is NO substitution for neck-through, IMHO. The sustain and high fret access is unmatchable.

Hmm, you think $1000 is too high for the condition it's in? If it's high, it's just a tiny bit high.

Re: RGA121 vs. RG3120 vs. RGT3120

neck through = better resonance? i believe even if it's bolt-on, if it's magical, then it'll out-resonate a neck-through.

About $100 too high (IMO), depending on the condition. Looked nice, but couldn't see too much detail. Although, in the end, it's worth what somebody is willing to pay. I bought my RGT3120 for $850, one very small ding. I'm addicted to the RGT Prestige series.

Eh, I could spend nearly $100 taking some girl out to dinner and a movie. I think if it were the guitar I really wanted, I wouldn't let it stop me, when you're talking the difference between $900 and $1000.

I suppose you're correct on the $100. If it's something I really want, I'll pay the extra. If it's something I think would just be cool to have, I won't pay the $100. Considering I have 4 RGTs now another would simply be luxury and I wouldn't "pop" for that extra $100. On a side note, I'm glad I'm married... $100 on a date these day?!?!

Just an FYI for you. It's been re-listed on 3bay; purple RGT3120 flamed maple top 230496129922. Starting at a great $799. I think you'd be really happy with it.

Yeah, I remember in high school I could take out a girl for probably $30! It also probably doesn't help that I live in DC. Not exactly cheap around here LOL.

Yeah seems like a great deal. I'd jump on that.
