RGD2127 - tell me about this guitar

Interested in what people here think about the RGD2127, either the version with the Edge Zero or the fixed bridge version. I only have one quasi 7 string at the moment, one half of an STW. That's a standard 25.5" scale with a fixed bridge.

On that guitar, I feel like if I put it in drop A, it starts to get pretty flubby as the string tension gets too slack. The guitar is strung with a typical #10 seven string set. So this leads to two questions about the RGD. I realize the standard tuning on that guitar is down one step. What if I drop the 7th string to G? Or similarly what if I wanted to do drop A on it? How is the sring tension in drop A with the extended scale?

What about trem vs fixed on this guitar? I know effectively nothing about the Edge Zero. Are you able to use the ZPS to basically block the trem, so that I could downtune on the fly?

The Zero trem is not my favorite unit. I had 3 J Customs with that trem on in the past. I did have a couple of issues with the Edge zero on 2 of them. The 3rd unit was fine. I have an RG3727 with the zero trem as well and it is perfect without issue.

You can't effectively use the trem like an ibanez Backstop or ESP arming adjuster. You can get a fine balance point on it so that if you break a string, it won't go out as bad as it would with a regular setup. The screws for intonation are hideously week and should be treated with care.

I was a fan of these trems years ago until I developed a few problems with the ones I had. I would have completely avoided getting a guitar with it this time around but the neck on this one is unbelievable.

The Edge Zero7 is stable considering it´s a floating trem. But if you intend to downtune on the fly, I would recommend a fixed bridge. Besides, would you just keep the saddle lock open during play or what?
Also for lower tunings thicker strings are a rule. You´ll just have to find the right balance for that particular guitar and the action you like. For me the 26,5" doesn´t make that much of a difference in terms of string tension the tuning being factory standard A.
